PC Monitor / LCD Monitor advice please

Hi

Not your usual run of the mill lcd screen request!

Advice please needed as I'm getting confused on which are compatible and which not. I'm also not sure what size lcd I can get away with.

What I need is a PC monitor that will double as an LCD TV. So its got to be big enough to see TV (from within 6ft) and small enough to get on my desktop! Its going into a corner desk so I reckon I could get up to 27" LCD in at a squeeze. Is this too big for a monitor?

Ideally the LCD screen should also be able to handle my XBOX 360 as I fear I'm going to be relegated from the living room any day now:roll:

So ideally something that is going to suit all 3 needs

1. PC Monitor
2. LCD TV in a small room
3. XBOX 360 friendly

Alternatively I am also toying with the idea of getting seperate

PC Monitor (as upgrading pc)
LCD TV
Upgrading main TV!!

The second option is a bit hard on the wallet though:w00t:

As a benchmark I currently have a SONY CRT 17" screen on the PC and the pic quality is far superior to some of the LCD screens I have seen.

Thanks in anticipation

Check the threads I have this one in the bedroom for TV ,DVD, DVD recorder and monitor other guys here use it for games

I don't know exactly what your budget is but the Dell monitors are superb. I have the 2407WFP and it is excellent. Plenty of inputs for other sources and handles PiP very well.

I have also just ordered a Sharp 42" LCD as my replacement tv and have heard good things. The Dell now sells for around £600-650 and at times drops alot lower depending on offers. The Sharp I bought for just over £1000 (Dixons 12 months interest free) and I am hoping will handle pc input very well. 42" may be a tad large for primary monitor use, especially if you are sat very close :-D

Funny as I was looking at the Dell deal which MikeT posted (I think). Presumably your LCD is a 24"? Do you use it for XBOX 360?

Cheers

Update

Now looking at Sony KDL26S2010U

Does anyone use one of these as a

1. monitor
2. xbox 360 gaming
3. and tv?

Is 26" too big for a monitor? It will be placed about 2ft away from where I'm sitting when using pc. Will I end up like :w00t:

If your main use for it is as a PC Monitor and Video Games then avoid LCD TVs. They're good, but they cant keep up with real monitors

From what ive heard the ]Samsung 244T is the best around at the moment. It has a HDCP compatable DVI port and a lower price than the Dell 2407WFP whist maintaining similar picture quality.

If thats a bit too expensive then the Samsung 215TW is also supposed to be very good. Basically the same monitor but the screen is 3" smaller and the resolution is a bit lower.
