Worth taking a look inside your PC as a cable may be brushing agains a fan ,It is ok to stop the Graphics card and psu fan for a second to see if it is either of them making the noise,

Also check that its all working as a drop on the power may knock out your Graphics...If you looked inside as well and nothings touching they are cheap to change....Could leave it of for a few hours and see if it gets better..Good Luck

would it be safe to open the case and hold down the cpu fan for a few sec?

Yeah just put your finger on the middle of the fan for a second ,it will restart straight away,

High pitched noises can often be power inverters so check all the other electronic stuff you've got on your desk (monitors seem particulaly prone to developing this).

Although the OP has stated that the noise is coming from the computer.

How would the monitor inverter generate high pitched sounds?

It'll be fine stopped for a second or two, especially if you've got a big heatsink.
