    PC Towers

    Hello

My dads PC is a decent one - Top end maybe 18 months ago. However its totally wrecked. Virus's,malware, trojans etc.

For instance when you turn it on its a 10 minute job just to get it going.
web pages take an age to load etc.

Does anybody know where the best place is for PC Towers?
He doesnt need a mega fast games playing machine.
Just like a decent ability to browse the web.

    Thanks
    Dan

Why not just re-install the Operating system rather than buy a new PC ?

I bet PC world are licking their lips.

you have a software failure. You should have a reboot disc if not something on your c drive should state something like reinstall operating system. if not, you should be able to source something on the net or worse case take it down to a pc repair shop but act as if you kinow what your talking about and get a quote for repair of software. It doesnt sound as though there is anything wrong with the hardware. it will cost far less and tell him to stop looking at naughty sites.........lol only joking

    install an antivirus
uninstall all the crap in control panel
uninstall all the internet explorer addons.

also, it sounds as though he may have installed alot of unessecary software over the last 18 months.

he can go in to install software in my computer and delete the things he no longer requires.

seriiously dont get rid of the pc, especially if its only 18 months old

he had a ahem *free* version of Windows on the system.
it was already on when he bought it and when he logged on
striaght away he was told it wasnt genuine so he clicked "get genuine copy"
and all hell has been let loose.

its running on 99% when you click on the programmes.

    dad viewing porn??? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh:oops:

Find out what the spec is and post it here, then people can tell you if it's worth saving. if it is, I would just buy a genuine copy of Wins7 and stick that on there.

    help...............

i posted a geniune question and now am getting terrible
images of me dad upto no good.............

danbet35 honestly reinstall an operating system, windows 7 will probably run a treat on it if its only 18months old, and even buying a copy will be much cheaper then buying a new tower.

If the PC is a good spec, don't waste your money on a new one. Buy a legit OS and reinstall.

Then be sure to install some decent antivirus (Avast), firewall (Comodo) and antispyware (MalwareBytes).

    Job done.

If the PC was bought new 18 months ago it may be of a reasonable spec for Win7.

Sounds like it came with a dodgy version fo windows which suggest 2nd had so might not be up to windows 7 standard.

Can you borrow an XP install disk off someone - you can install this for up to 30 days before you have to activate and then download the windows 7 system checker - which will tell you if you have a good enough PC.

Win7 can be had legitimately for around £36 for softwareforstudents if you are a student or your children are students (icnluding primary school or high school - not just college tec)

Anything top end 18 months ago is going to be faster than any entry level or even mid-range PC now, We're talking as Core 2 Quad Q9550, Radeon 4870/GTX 280, 4GB of ram or more and similar.

I would agree, and not meaning to insult the OP (:-D) but if it had a dodgy copy of XP installed it may not the the "top spec" they expect.

TBH if the OPs dad knows as much about computers as the OP does then they … TBH if the OPs dad knows as much about computers as the OP does then they probably paid £1000 for an atom.

    LOL

I suspect that after reading a few replies the op didn't have a clue what people were on about so has decided to ignore the thread and has subsequently went out and purchased a "top of the range" computer from the guy down the street who knows about this sort of thing.
