I think my pc is struggling to play battlefield 1 as the frame rate seems a bit slow. when i use to play star wars battlefront everything was fine and never had any issues. Can anyone recommend what i should upgrade?

Google, can you run it, and do a scan against the game, it will tell you the recommended spec to play it at, or just google the game specs and away you go, looking at your rig I would say, mb, cpu ram and gpu unfortunately

I've already got it installed and can play it but the fps is low so it needs an upgrade.

I think it recommends 16gb ram, but your cpu and graphics are also holding it back, have you tried turning the graphics down, ie shadows, lighting effects and textures often help a lot without affecting the game much

yeh turned everything down to low. before battlefield 1 I was playing battlefront and it handled that fine.

Have you tried switching APIs? DX 11/12.

Wont work, I had a phenom 965 and Gtx 560 and wasn't playable, buying a better GPu will help a little but would then be bottlenecked by the CPU. Unfortunately because mobo was only ddr3 I bit the bullet and I went for it and bought new mobo, i5 6600k, rx 480 4gb, cost a lot but now will be sorted for next 2/3 years.

Yup, there comes a time when you just can't upgrade a system anymore,

Have you tried video settings - advanced and disable GPU Memory restriction(enabled by default)

don't think I'd be able to change any of the settings to help. only option is to upgrade really but I don't know what to go for.

Do not use dx12 on battlefield 1. On the beta it performed even worse on amd and from what I'm hearing it's the same with the released version.

Dependant on budget I would go for a 6600k and a 1060 or a 480x. A 1070 combined with a 6700k is the sweet spot in my eyes but it is expensive. Obviously zen is coming so maybe it's better to wait for that however you are looking at up to 8 months

I would agree either a 1070 or maybe a 980ti are going cheap now

Yep I'd imagine a GPU upgrade will solve the problem. I would have though you would get medium - low settings at 30fps as you are but I haven't had battlefield 1 on PC myself so not sure how demanding it is compared to battlefront.
If your on a budget a used 970 could be a good call

As a guy who owned a lot of 7950s for bitcoin mining I would recommend overclocking it heavily. All the 7950's I had easily managed to clock higher than a 7970 so whilst not ideal it will at least extend it's life a little whilst you save up for something like a 1050ti or a rx 470
