this isnt my first post on here asking for help, so id be grateful for some advice.
basically my lappy for some reason has stopped playing mkv. files properly(theres a delay in sound/picture) but WAS playing them perfectly bout a week or two ago...not sure why.
was playing them in media player classic and ive tried downloading vlc and its the same problem.also tried restoring to the least recent save point but no joy.have ran avg/spybot etc and defragged but STILL nothing.
not sure what to do next really...its annoying as ive quite a few mkv files and none of them will now play properly.
any help would be much appreciated!

oh and lappy is a vaio core 2 duo t7500 with 2 gb ram and a nvidia geforce 8600 graphics card if that makes a difference.

reinstall video card drivers?

failing that, reinstall windows

You tried taking the battery out and the power pack and leaving it dead for a couple of minutes.

Try installing a new codec pack (and uninstall any old one you have on there)

Use:
cccp-project.net/
or
free-codecs.com/dow…htm

I use K-Lite & Media Player Classic and have no problems ever.

ill give that a go too...didnt think it would be codec related as was working last week and i just downloaded vlc today and same prob too.

i'd advise a codec pack clear/install

if all else fails you could always convert the files to a different format? ^_^

Wasnt a memory error then.

What card is it?

MKV's can do this sometimes on my lappy. They tend to be more resource hungry than AVIs,MPGs etc. Check how many processes you have running and close/disable as many as you can.
