Pep Guardiola claims Tottenham were the only team to outplay Manchester City this season

    Banned
"Pep Guardiola claimed that Tottenham were the only team to have outplayed Manchester City all season despite his side’s 4-0 hammering by Everton on Sunday."

"It is far from the first of Guardiola’s five league defeats this season where his side have monopolised the ball and had the best chances only for poor finishing to let them down. Indeed the 45-year-old claimed that only Spurs had been categorically better than City when they won 2-0 at White Hart Lane."

“At White Hart Lane Tottenham were much better,” Guardiola said. “In the other games I don’t feel that feeling that the opponents were much better."

Play as well as you like, but if your keeper/defense is so poor you will always struggle

At the beginning of the season, I thought City would be champs. The three teams below Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal are all of equal ability and talent and separated by just 1 point? It's an amazingly tight top 4 this season, and the most exciting one! Wow

    wow.

he's obviously forgetting about both the celtic games, home and away man city were lucky to scrape a draw! lol

He can't handle the Premier League.

Had an absolute shocker spending £50M on Stones and getting rid of Hart in favour of Bravo.
    Manchester isn't in Catalonia.

headline fail - not what he says

he is an overrated manager. wont last beyond this season

Oh he'll be here at City at least another 2 seasons and may even win it next year!

he will never win anything at city unless he learns to change he's crappy philosophy, it clearly isn't working in the premier league.

    The mans obviously deluded

As soon as Pep had a slip up people were going to jump on him, and he's made some mistakes, but that City squad has some massive issues.

He's got four fullbacks over the age of 31 and not that impressive.
He's got three centre-halves, one of which is Vincent Kompany who is finished at the top.
His central midfielders are Yaya Toure (33 and done), Gundogan (injured for the season), Fernandinho and Fernando.
Up front he's got Aguero and Iheanacho...and that's it.

To me that squad lacks decent full-backs, a defender, a decent midfield and probably one more striker. Instead they've got an abundance of attacking midfielders. Now maybe that's his fault, and the keeper situation definitely is despite Hart being a limited footballer, but the club have seriously mismanaged the squad.

He has known for nearly a year he would be taking this job, so has had plenty of opportunities identify areas where the squad needs improving- the buck definitely stops with him, as he had has 1.5 transfer windows to buy the right players, but instead he has bought a GK he doesn't need, a ludicrously priced inexperienced CB, the most injury prone player in the world and a striker who has no European experience and has only just joined the club. Oh and Nolito?!

He got incredibly lucky with the two teams he has managed prior and is now learning the hard way that he isn't actually that special.

I think he's definitely made mistakes, but it's unrealistic to think a coach can come in and not only get every player they want but also afford all those players too.

City have spent poorly for a while now so they've ended up with an ageing, unbalanced squad. Half that squad is over-30!

They needed a defender, and probably a homegrown one at that, so last summer (and the summer before because YOUR manager wanted him when he was at Chelsea) Stones was the big name. It wasn't a crazy buy. Gundogan is a great player troubled with injuries, Nolito is a decent squad player and Jesus could be something special so it's not that bad a window. Fact is they needed another striker, at least two full-backs, another midfielder and another centreback.

Also they did need a new keeper because Pep likes to play out from the back and Hart simply isn't good enough. Bravo doesn't look good enough but other keepers have struggled when coming to this league, De Gea being a good example.

Now obviously Pep's made mistakes and sticking rigidly to his style of football won't change much, but that is his style. The owners knew that and now they need to back him with time and money. The fact is that they've invested poorly in the squad over numerous seasons.

I think he thought that it's only a 2-3 year stint, then move on...hence he doesn't care if the players are old..it the next Managers problem not his!

Well then he's in trouble because those players he currently has aren't good enough to implement his system. Pep's thing is that he takes good teams to the next level, to varying degrees of success.

He's like Jose except Jose tends to burn stuff down after 3 years.

You're criticising the coach of a team who are currently two points ahead of you.

Plus I don't resent Jose. The guy was a legend for us before melting down last season. I'm sure he'll do well for you when you allow him to spend a couple of hundred million more quid.

Bit early to write him off imo. He has an aging squad and will need a few seasons to bed in. They will still be a huge danger next season after reinforcements are identified.

JM has nothing to prove to anyone. His history speaks for itself. There is no manager on Earth who could have taken a Chelsea side, he built to his specifications, regardless of the money spent, to such incredible heights. That premier league record total is still folklore...

Maybe all city need to become champions is two fullbacks like Rose and Walker. They are fast and mobile enough to make Pep's system work. Shame they can't have em!
