Slightly more interesting than I thought. When you find the answer, tell me. I'm quite tempted by National Savings. I think that A&Leicester have some great one year offer for over-50 new customers.
Suppose that money saving blah is the place!!

It's 10% on up to £3,600 but you have to have a least the same amount in a savings account where your money is tied up for at least 3 years (there's always a catch!)

Lloyds TSB at 6.5% for balances of £9,000 and more, I believe is the best one for the cash isa
don't know if you know but you can put in £3,600 this year

LoL there's always a catch

Think Barclays is 6.5% too...1% bonus for the year.

*watching this thread.
have about £20k of hard-earned, hard-saved money. 1st year i did L&G for the highest rates, last year i did Post Office because of the banks/northern rock situation in case the financial industry go tits up. this year ... let's see.

I would highly recommend NOT getting a share ISA.

I was told when I bought mine that I should get a higher return, but that it wasnt guarranteed. They mentioned nothing about the capital being at risk! I put in 5K in 1999 and in 2001 it was worth 3K. I cashed it in 2K down. Never again! I did complain to the bank as this wasnt made clear (ie mis-selling) and was bbought over the phone. They replied that they had sent paperwork though so it was my fault I hadn't aquinted myself with the facts. I should really have taken it to the ombudsman (as my purchase call would be on record and verify what I said as true), but I have as much faith in them as I have the bank!

Moneysavingexpert is better with infancial things.

also with that amount of money to save mayb u shud get some sort of financial advisor? instead of asking Interwebz people.

best deal 4 isa is in barclays (6.55) althought its 1 year only yet again its the best
rest put them in 2 A&L (6.5) as long as u r not planning 2 move them 4 a while otherwise u might loose whole month interest this rate is fix till may 2009
good luck...

Can I move my this year Cash ISA to Share ISA later when I wish during the year to another provider?

Best is alliance and leicester isa.. infact 10% if you open an account with them or 6.25 gauranteed until may 2009 and you can bring in the existing cash isa

hmrc.gov.uk/isa…htm

I had a meeting with an IFA the other day and he recommended staying away from the Abbey super ISA as apparently lots of people are having trouble understanding how it works so he will not recommend something he dosent understand. The man from Lloyds also said stay away as you have to factor in both halves of it which means you only get about 3% after everything. I dont know - this is only what I was told.
Allience and Leicester has a 6.5% esaver account with cashback with quidco if you go over your ISA limit but its not the best buy on MSE because of the loss of interest if you draw any money out

Nationwide also have 6.15% fixed for either one year or two, your choice, far safer than the banks at the moment ..

thanks imranmaz and inactive - will check it out.

*thinking of silas marner and that hole in the floor.
