    Nope, no need to activate the SIM. Just jam it in the phone, and away you go. Regarding the number for O2's customer care, I can't remember it. It might be 151, though. Or that could be voicemail. I too am new to this O2 lark, sorry.

    concur with previous posts advice. The sim should already be set up and activated. All you have to do is break it free from the card and pop it in the phone. What you might find with O2 sims is that every time you put it into a phone it will recognise this (by registering the IMEI number against the SIM on their system so it has an audit of the hardware that the SIM has been used with), and automatically send you a text message with the O2 connection configuration details which you can save and set as default on the phone. :thumbsup:
