I read some horror stories about it,in some cases it can cause damp etc.

Put me right off the idea !

You now have to leave the windows open lol,

All the heat going out the windows and you've had to shell out another 170 quid:w00t:

How they gonna sweep that inside the wall? The gap seems far too small!

going to get an extractor fan fitted in the bathroom when we get it done … going to get an extractor fan fitted in the bathroom when we get it done next year should solve it :thumbsup:not looking forward to this :w00t:

Vent into loft and outside via soffit or roof tile vent.

A house needs to breath so all trapped moist air from bodies, cooking, heating, showers etc gotta go some where.

our surveyor strongly advised us against having it fitted. thank god we listened. most of out neighbours (same design house) are now going through the horrors of getting it removed because of the damp problems it can create

i have cavity wall insulation and suffer terrible condensation problems and to be honest i dont think it made a difference to the house being warmer

did you get the ebac dehumidifier direct from ebac with the 5 yr warranty?

On a slightly different but related point. With all the recent floods I was wondering what the effect would be if a house with cavity wall insulation was flooded. Surely it would be even more difficult to dry out. My mind often goes off at a tangent. Just wondering.

i emailed them two days ago, not even bothered to reply, so wont be buying from them, there 5 yr warranty doesnt make up for bad customer service

ordered earlier today from them yeah. I emailed them about my name and … ordered earlier today from them yeah. I emailed them about my name and address not being encrypted till I get through to their payments system to which they replyed "Dear CustomerThanks for your email, the website is perfectly safe no one will be able to access your details. Many Thanks,Judith Dewell"Don't think she has a clue to be honest. You should read their policies as well, they say they will send your personal information to 3rd parties so they can send mailings to you. You have to write a damn letter to their head office to stop them.

As a workaround for now .. get the windows dry and then with a dry cloth put some washing up liquid on it and clean the windows.. the window has to be dry though otherwise it will go all bubbly.. you might need to do this every week but it does work

We noticed this aswell, but we have little vents we can open at top of the upvc window frames and the takes the condensation away..

got quite old double glazing no vents here

we have a fan in bathroom and it doesnt do nowt, still steams up badly when we even have a bath and have big vents in all upstair rooms and these are the rooms that are the worse for condensation,

If they would price match other stores selling this at £10 cheaper, didnt even get a no, i dont call that good practice

Even with double glazing one my rooms was getting alot of condensation and even once resulted in surface damp, thin black fungae that was on some of the walls due to build up of all the condensation.

We had three vents installed which has helped, but not 100%.

Bathroom vent sounds like great idea to help shift the air, you can get positive pressure machines too, basically forcing air into the house to force the old air out and take the water with it.

    technicality

well like i say, if there customer service cant even be bothered to respond to get a sale, then i wouldnt hold out much hope if something went wrong and had to use their not so free 5 yr warranty

lumor - you prob already know this, but the bathroom and the room you're drying your clothes in are causing the condensation - the moisture off the shower/bath and the moisture evaporating from your clothes.

    thats inflation after 2 years

a lot of misinformation in this thread and they always popup just as winter hits and people wake up to water on the inside of their windows.

and please remember wall or loft insulation will not make ur house warmer but will certainly help keep some of that heat you have generated in.

my tip for stopping condensation, stop breathing out warm air.

I have a big old victorian house with very high ceilings and it requires a lot of heating but i dont think id go for cavity wall insulation.

    Too many scare stories.

    This drives me nuts.

I had a tenant who complained about damp in the flat. I went in and went bezerk because the walls were dripping with water, the heating was full on, no windows open ever and drying washing and cooking.
