If running windows, would be a case of double-clicking the .exe file (what you downloaded).

Following the prompts (next>next>...>finish) it should remove the old version of Firefox and 3.6 will continue to be the default.

    I think!

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> System Defaults (At the bottom) -> Check Now

    I don't think installing FF3 uninstalls FF2..

Did you make sure to go to the advanced tab (it's the last one) then the General tab is a subtab of advanced.

Hmm... guess Linux doesn't have that option.. Do you use KDE or Gnome?

    Try typing this:
    echo $DESKTOP_SESSION
    in a terminal

Pretty much... Windows 7 is much more "dumbed down" (no insult meant, but can't think of a better word), but I guess you probably wouldn't feel confident installing it..

My dell mini 9 is running 7 ultimate. It was fine on 1 gb of ram used it for 3 to 4 weeks like that no problem. I have a 2 gb stick in now just about the same speed because of the way it's installed etc.

Just turn off some features for the SSD. Like no page file, stop indexing, I turn off hibernate, no system restore, caching*

If you find your ssd slow try flashfire.

I had to install to an Acer Aspire One Zg5 (512 meg) the other day it took an eternity to install xp integrated with sp3 more than 2 hours. Then 65 windows updates a further 4 hours actually overnight as I had had enough woke up it stopped on update 19 to ask me to install an update. Had to wait another 3 hours+ for it to stop.

Anyways the ssd drive on that was rubbish so I installed flashfire what a difference it makes to a rubbish ssd it's usable now. It was not before . I told the lad if i see it again he will be getting charged full price and not done for a favour. It was that bad.

I remember trying to update Firefox on my wifes Acer Aspire One (Linux) and it was a pain in the neck! In fact it was a chore trying to get ANYTHING installed on Linux Linpus (the standard AAO default OS). I then tried Umbunu on it and that was a little better but eventually I gave up and installed Win Xp on it.

    IMO Linux isn't a great OS for a non-geek.

This might … This might help:http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/07/installing-firefox-3-on-acer-aspire-one.htmlSuggest that you read the whole thing first though.

OK, so I did just this on a aspire 1 today. Followed the instructions exactly as given in the link above and it upgraded fine.

Only one issue it did not take my saved passwords with it, so what I did was just go back to the default profile. To do this copy and paste the following into terminal:

    firefox -profilemanager -no-remote

press enter then when the window opens, select default profile, of course that means that you should not delete "default" profile during the upgrade process.

    All works fine
