Would hate to be your kids then

 ..

This just about sums you up for me Mr. lumoruk. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

What's the truth about the Easter bunny???? I'm well happy with the egg the bunny left me

nothing wrong with making childhood magical-can you imagine being the only 3 year old in nursery/playgroup who didnt believe in santa? and if you want the "truth" then you would have to try to explain the religious significance of christmas to a toddler.

its your call, but I think its harmless-plenty time for reality later on.

Wish someone had told me the truth about Father Christmas. The one at my local Co-op promised me a bike when I was 8 If I sat on his lap. When I did that there was no bloody saddle.

Personally - i'll tell my son when he asks me if father Christmas exists.. But i'll tell him the actual story behind it... Until then i'll let the magic of it continue for as long as possible..

I think it's really upto you, there isn't any right or wrong way to approach it.

I personally won't be trying to shelter my kids from modern media like yourself - but equally i don't think there is anything wrong if you want to do it either.

Feed them, clothe them, educate them and provide a loving and supportive home life... Anyone who does that can't really go wrong in parenting..

Obviously - some more extreme parents have a different point of view.

I'm an honest John, so shoot me.

You remember being a toddler?

I have a toddler, christmas is a magical time for her-santa/reindeer,the whole deal-it isnt harmful in any way whatsoever for her to believe in these things. I have 5 children m8,its all very well you talking about doing these things when you have none yet,but when you do,you may well find you change your mind.

Wow OP, you really need to lighten up a bit!!!

What's wrong with bringing up children to enjoy a little bit of magic, dreaming and make-believe?

Or do you live in a place where 10-year-old hoodies carry knives and go round stabbing each other and kids record people on their mobile phones getting happy slapped? Is that "the truth" you want your children to grow up knowing???

I found out father Christmas wasn't real when I woke up one year to see king Kong in my bedroom, apparently the fancy dress shop had ran out of Santa suits.

You come across all hard faced now, wait until you have kids you'll change your mind then.

FYI kids start to recognise Christmas and Santa from around 2, they understand more than they can say, by 3 they are fairly aware and comprehensive and by 4 they know 100%.

Try telling your excited little kids there is no santa, whilst s/he is beaming at norad asking for milk and mince pies, you won't do it, you will nuture the innocence:thumbsup:

op does this also mean you wont take them to disney as mickey mouse doesnt exist?

Toddlers are just fascinated by all the bright and different colours and … Toddlers are just fascinated by all the bright and different colours and the fuss being made over them, of course we'll buy presents (the missus won't stop doing that). It's not like they start believing in father Christmas there and then, at some point 4/5/6 you tell them father Christmas exists or they see it on TV.For me it was when father christmas came down the corridor at a Police station and gave me a large truck, I was like wow father christmas. Few years later I find out he is fake and I'm heart broken.

4/5/6??? noo way-kids know about santa from 2 years old!

well i wanted to break it to you gently:oops:

Phew........ I was starting to panic:roll:

I dont know this Easter Bunny thing, my son believes in all the rest, but Easter has never had an easter bunny until the chocolatiers started it. So we don't do that one in our house but know we paint and roll our eggs to signify the rolling rock from the cave. How could you deny a child Father Christmas because of a experience you had. That's just selfish!

That's what every plumber says when they give you the bill

as billy connolly says

"childrens minds should be full of magical things"

you need to let your childrens imaginations run wild
its all part of there development!! it should be the most magical time of there life!!

i would feel sorry for any child whos told santas not true!!

 i feel sorry for kids who dont believe...our son still believes-even in the tooth fairy. She even writes him little notes and he is so excited by them he takes them to school in his pockets hes so proud:) how could you not want that for your kids?

and what does your o/h say?

Yes and no...I made an exception with the tooth fairy but my lil one know's about santa being a big tubby frabrication! I want to make sure he knows the value of money!!

I wouldnt like to be in your shoes when you have got loads of upset parents complaining that your child has told their child "the truth"!! Its all well and good telling them that, but how would you stop a 3, 4 or even 5 year old from telling their friends and bursting bubbles.

i know!! thats the kind of things im going to do for my little girl!!
shes 7months and at christmas there i made sure she had a stocking hung up and left milk for santa!!

does the op have some bad memories of santa tooth fairy easter bunny etc??

x

My children only watch cbeebies because I dont agree with kids adverts, I remember pestering my parents for a load of absolute junk just because it looked good on the tele! Not in my house!

It does work though, eldest asked for a violin and art stuff for her xmas

As for santa, tooth fairy etc, well all mine still believe. Dont see the harm personally and makes things a bit more magical eldest is 6.

An excellent point made. It's not all about commercialism, it's about making your kids smile on Christmas morning

I think barky has put it best on here - I'm not sentimental and a great believer in all that tosh either, but I won't deny my son from the expectation, excitement and wonder these occasions bring to the little ones.

Yes they do the Easter bunny bit them, Santa didn't bring the bike they asked for and the tooth fairy punched out all their teeth and left quickly

At xmas at my youngests pre-school, father christmas comes in and gives all the children a present. If i'd told my youngest he didn't exist there would be much confusion and then probably ruin it for all the other children. My eldest who is nearly 12 knew he wasn't real a couple of years ago but didn't let on. We didn't want to tell her but they talk about it in school and figure it out for themselves. She has promised not to tell the youngest and enjoys pretending. She still gets unbelievably excited on xmas eve even though she knows the truth!
We don't have easter bunnies, they just get easter eggs/pressies from us and the family.
It doesn't do them any harm whatsoever and its nice for children to have dreams and excitement about father xmas, tooth fairies etc......

Thanks

I just want to know why a bunny brings us eggs? They don't go together!?!?

The easter bunny didn't exist when I was a child but come on...can you really deny a child the magic of Father Christmas?

Christmas doesn't hold the same appeal as an adult...well certainly not an adult with no small children in their life.

I know what you're saying Bella, my kids have made my Christmas special for the last 17 years.......and they still get gifts from Father Christmas
