I assume so my college uses it ?

i use it with no problems

I have used McAfee internet security for years on my PC's - I do a custom install and only use the anti virus and firewall, works a treat if you ask me.

We used to have it & had no probs at all, got norton @ the mo only because it was cheaper.

its all for corporations to take your money, use avg

Nod32 for the win, have used this for years.
to be fair, if you know what your doing you dont even need an Anti-virus.

HSBC give me a free license for McAfee but I don't rate it. Instead I use the free license Barclays give me for Kaspersky.

If I were to go down the free route I'd go with Avira Antivir.

I would say it's still a good idea to have anti-virus as I've seen legitimate websites carry rouge malware or viruses.

Always good to have AV + Firewall - Windows Firewall is good enough, but for a little extra, go with the McAfee / Norton Variants, but I keep away from norton, even though their last effort was not too bad.

cheers for the link. was looking for personal opinions also

I uninstall mcafee from every laptop I buy or setup

Mainly Co's I do not have a license beyond the 3-6 month trial and from when I had a 12 month license, after 3 months I removed it as viruses (I intentionally got them ) were not being detected. this was 2008-2009v and it was not the product for me, things change though and it may be better now which is why I gave you a link to what is considered to be an independent view on most av products.

AVG Free all the way. Norton and McAfee are the biggest paid for viruses on PC's worldwide! They are just bloatware! Massive and end up slowing down a system. There are much better and free alternatives out there. Plus if you are vigilant about the sites you view then there is no real need to pay for anti virus software. Granted if you can get it for free then it's a win-win situation as you can always remove it.

more than happy with avira

Stick with Microsoft Security Essentials. It has the best performance overall when all factors such as detection rate/scan speed/false positives etc are taken into account.

I'd also recommend downloading Anti-Malwarebytes for Malware detection/removal and Securnia PSI to keep your programs up to date and patch security loopholes. Also, common sense.

mse let so much stuff through on computers I had to fix. Good for me as it meant ££ for fixing

I dislike McAfee, resource hog...

mcafee - unreliable and a resource hog

mind you, its far better than AVG free which is next to useless as is proven by the persistant 'help - avg let a virus through' pleas for help in misc,

@ CSI - Avast ftw?

currently using Mcafeeas it is free for 12 months with $ky b/b, will probably go back to mse once it finishes, had a cracked copy of Nod32 for a while and was the best av suite i had but common sense prevailed when i thought if they can crack the software, how do you know it works properly.
