Petrol prices to increase AGAIN!!

My local garage has just increased the price of unleaded to £1.05p per litre, and diesel to £1.11p a litre. Since my rail fare has just increased by 9.5%, it may still be cheaper for me to drive to work and to hell with global warming. If this Government is so concerned, why do they allow public transport operators to get away with this, and why do they all get whisked away from Downing Street in gass guzzling limos?? Please don't tell me they've been converted to LPG, 'cos they aint!

totally agree
this goverment needs a stick up their **** to realise their sending this country to the dogs

It is flippin disgusting the price of fuel, why can't the government freeze what tax it takes instead of taking more when the cost of a barrel goes up. Plus, when you here the price of a barrel goes up, why do the prices at the pumps go up straightaway, surely what they have in the garage or their depot is fuel at the old barrel prices. grrrr!!!

The only options I have are:

a. Public transport, but that is a joke, around my way, the buses are so unreliable it be quicker to walk

b. Walk, no can do, at 7am in the morning, there is some pretty dodgy geezers doing the rounds these days, and the only way i'll be safe is if I have a lion on a lead.

c. Push bike, can't do because of dodgy geezers from b (above)

d. Drive, only 1 car and wife has to take children on a 5 mile journey to school.

e. Moped, have a steep set of 15 steps and dodgy geezers from b (above)

f. Move house, can't because of b (above) house prices have dropped due to crime etc.

Who's too blame! THE GOVERNMENT, putting the fuel up, not sorting out public transport and putting too many people with asbo's near my house.

I think I'll move to poland, it'll be empty soon!

The answer? At the next election, tell your local tory MP when he visits your door that the only way you will vote conservative is if they provide a national subsidised public transport system that is affordable and worth a damn. In addition, you want a pledge of an abolition on tax on domestic heating. If not, you'll vote Lib Dem LOL
No politician is going to run on a pledge of lower taxes on petrol, so call his bluff and insist on higher motor fuel taxes to pay for decent and afforable public transport.

have you tried www.petrolprices.com - great place to find a petrol bargain

I would have no problem with the extremely high fuel tax if it was being pumped into public transport, which would then be a modern and efficient service that was cheap to use. That's so laughably far from the truth though, the recent delays in engineering work grounding the west line to a halt are all too evident of the mess it is here. To use the train it's around double the cost of driving which is just so wrong, I do try to use Megabus but it's not always a very pleasant experience and often still not that cheap either.

All politicians will tell you what you want to hear.

Most weekends, if you pay for a train ticket from Shenfield to Chelmsford, you end up on a rail replacement bus service anyway. It's an effing joke. I too would be happy to sacrifice the car for PT if it was there to use. But one it is extortionately priced, way in excess of what the car costs, and two it just isn't there when you need it. PT is utterly useless and completely unviable unless you live in a city.
I'll trade my vote for decent PT at the next election. I'd pay £1.50 per litre if that money was being pumped into subsidised PT. All it is under Labour is yet another stealth tax to pay for interpreters for Polish immigrants :x

because the government knows we will still buy just as much fuel even with the price hike, we need fuel in this modern day and age. With Npower just announcing price hikes, how many people do you think will actually stop cooking as much or stop their gas supply completly because of it?

politicians always operate on a 'do as I say, not as I do' policy. Now I see the environmentalists are operating the same policy:- Q. How many environmentalists does it take to fly to Bali for a chat about global warming? A. 10,000! Q. What's Al Gore's annual electric bill for his home? A. $30,000 I'd laugh but it aint funny.
