Petrol Protest... Who is with me?

I have an Idea, I think we should all just park our cars in petrol stations up and down the country. Now I can't just do this myself or I will get towed away, lol.

Safety in numbers and they can't exactly tow millions of cars away. We could start a viral. facebook, twitter etc

This government has taken the P*** with petrol prices for far too long now and its about time we made a stand...

Only because we let them, I really can't stand americans (no offence) but do you think they would put up with this? course they wouldn't.

The truth is we let ourselves get walked all over!

Well if you want to screw them over convert your car to LPG. Then dig a big whole is your garden and install a LPG tank (£1500). A 500ltr tank will cost you about £250 to fill and will probably get you around 4000 miles (@ 35mpg). The same 110 gallons in petrol will cost you about £640. So after 15,000 miles you will be in profit. (presuming the tax man doesn't catch up with you!)

Some fair prices is all I'm asking. Its the government speaks and everyone just agree's. This country has lost its back bone. Most other countries wouldn't put up with this.

Anyway this isn't going any where, just really gets on my wick!

Well the money has to come from somewhere unfortunately. The only things that can make the huge difference in revenue is income tax/NI or VAT on essentials. So take your pick!

If you want to strike go join the French the they are masters of it!

so either
a) this plan isn't too well publicised and people going to the pumps to get fuel they need can't get any and trouble starts, or
b) its very well publicised and everyone knows they won't get any fuel that day. so they all panic buy in the days leading up to it, meaning queues on the forecourts and bigger profits than an average week for the petrol companies.

i'm out

bet op drives a range rover

Well ill be the first OP , i'm with you !

I'm all for it any time I go near the petrol station I go off my nut!

I wonder at what price people will start to take action? it seems to be steadily rising way past the point everyone threw a fit on the last protest. (can anyone remember what price that was, it was about 3 or 4 years back and I remember queuing for hours to ensure I got some)

Personally I think boycotting certain stations would be the best action, hopefully forcing them to lower their prices, making the others follow suit and then in future making them wary about putting the price up in the first place.

Never going to happen but it would be nice to see the British people have a some nuts and fight for something for once instead of rolling over and playing dead again.

Just march straight into the petrol station and let them know your feelings.

The boycotting doesnt work!!! It means that other places still then are busy others arent.

The best thing was the rolling road blocks that where formed by truckers and the blocking of fuel depots. It was only then when the country ground to a halt did the government sit up and take notice!

My biggest gripe is that you pay a fair chuck of Tax on the fuel, yet we get charged VAT on that aswell.... So why are we being taxed twice for the same product!!! If they didnt charge VAT on the tax it would be 20p cheaper or thereabouts.....

Car a luxury, ok what about the Haulage firms that are either going bust or passing on the price to the consumer but hey who needs luxurys we could all just eat beans on toast and live in sheds.

Exactly my point, if everyone boycotts say Shell and BP, what do you think they are going to do about it. Yes it will mean the others are busier but the same amount of fuel is going to be bought every week regardless of what anyone does but if all the fuel is bought from only slected stations then the ones missing out have to do something.

Some of that money would yet still go to BP and Shell even if people didnt buy it from there! Because Tesco's/Sainsburys etc all by via the main petrol producers!!

Imagine how much revenue would be lost from this though? Millions of litres of fuel a day * 20p. The money would have to come from elsewhere.

Financially the country is screwed.

End of the day, petrol is only going to get higher. Oil sources are becoming sparse and that will only drive up the prices.

We need to look at other ways of fuelling our cars and lifestyles.

We all need a good kick up the backside and taught how to manage money. Too many people trying to live the life of luxury, easily getting in to debt and think its their right to own a car and house.

I love a good tory bashing, but they've only been in for several... months, ok so they lied about the petrol stabiliser pledge but then again they are politicians

We wouldn't need it.

My grandma coped well with 6 children and a shop around the corner.

My grandad had a well stocked allotment and my grandma washed everything by hand and had no fridge.

Were your grand-parents ever out of the bedroom

If they don't have your money in fuel tax, they will get it elsewhere.

There is no escape.

Just plan your journeys better and keep your right foot off of the gas pedal.

The biggest reason fuel prices are so high is that oil is bought and sold in dollars and sterling is weaker than it was a few years ago.

The retail price of fuel allows the operators around 4p per litre tops hardly profitering. There are not many retailers working on a margin of 3% so boycotting one petrol station or another is not going to see the price drop very much anyway.

The percentage of duty and VAT is where the large percentages are.

What do you want to pay? High income tax or high fuel duty. The country is almost bankrupt.

Labour ruined this country and we are all paying the consequences. A trillion pounds of national debt, nice.

High income tax please

So we worry about high oil prices whilst the Tories try to change the NHS beyond all recognition? Nice smoke screen.

The problem being that the ones missing out are only making around 3-6p profit per litre (I'm sure this is the approximate figure I saw in the paper the other day). So, they can only lower prices by that same amount before they are losing money on the petrol.

The biggest problem is the fuel duty, it account for not far off half the price of a litre. The government not only needs to scrap the next duty rise in April, it has to also cut the duty as it stands now before we'll see any significant price drop.

Not that that will happen right enough......

The plague! Mine would have loved the plague! They lived in a hole and had half a egg to eat all day! pfft...

I think a lot of the policies introduced by the current government - student finance, local council cuts, NHS management etc as well as the fuel price situation - are really starting to affect the nation in a negative way.

Although these cuts are necessary due to the deficit etc. I think Mr cam & his gang do seriously need to look at not what they are doing, but they way in which they are doing it.
