hi all, im not sure i fully understand the relationship between the various products, if i could just ask someone some laymans style questions that would be awesome :-)

so i am interested in getting the light strips for under kitchen lighting or possibly for uplighting in the living room.

i understand that to be able to remotely via an app, control the system ill need the hue bridge. how does this communicate to the lightstrip? i understand that the bridge requires power and also has an ethernet connection.

does the motion sensor require the bridge too, or can the motion sensor and the lightstrip work without the bridge?

cheers folks, just trying to scope out the situation.

Kind regards

Dave

You need the bridge for everything. All the hue devices use something called ZigBee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZigBee) to talk to each other. While the motion sensor could in theory talk directly to the lights, you need the bridge in order to configure everything, and support things like out-of-home control.

so the bridge/ app would allow me to control the use of lights in multiple areas.. if i had 3x 2m packs in different rooms of the house, the app would be able to differentiate between each one? can you also configure it so that the motion sensor only affects 1 of the kits?

sorry i think thats all i need to know now.. lol

Yes to everything! Each lightstrip is a controllable device in itself (obviously, if you buy the extension kit, that makes one lightstrip longer, rather than giving you another device)
