Phone help!! "Incoming call... please press hash to accept"!!!!

I need some help with my phone! I'm totally clueless with this sort of thing but I'll try and explain what I mean!
I have what I think is called a DPD number which means I can log into my work phone from any location, then once I'm logged in, have my calls routed to either the number I'm calling from or set numbers etc.
My set "alternative number" is my work mobile which is also somehow (I have no idea how!) able to just dial internal numbers (ie 7 digit numbers). Now... recently and for no reason... whenever I get a call, the caller is told they are being forwarded and then my phone rings. However, it gets to me and tells me "incoming call for *my name*... Please press hash or say OK to accept"... but by the time I've done this, the caller has hung up and I have to ring back!
Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about and... how do I fix it?!?!

Would it not make sense to ask your work about this rather than an internet forum?!

Who can manage to only post the once.
I do not know what a DPD number is, or what the acronym “DPD” stands for, but when somebody rings your telephone number & it is being redirected to your mobile line is there an announcement about the redirection to the caller, or does the line just ring out?

Does the redirection happen immediately, or is your desk-based handset called first & after a certain number of rings is the call redirected?

If the whole process of redirection takes, say, 10 seconds, then the caller may just think you are not at your desk & hang up.

See if you have have configuration options to announce a redirection, or limit the number of rings at the first handset before redirection occurs.

I have tried it from another phone and it immediately says "please wait, your call is being transferred" then after about two rings, it starts ringing on the work phone. When I then answer it, it doesn't tell the caller to hold or anything, it just keeps ringing. I've tried the internal configuration options but can't find anything

In those two rings the service is making a connection to the mobile network (that you have no control over), but is there anything in the internal configuration options to not give you the option to accept the call by using the Hash key? That may give you a couple of seconds to catch the caller before they hang up.

I understand why the announcement is made; I have a "follow me" number that you can redirect in a similar manner & it means that if somebody answers a line where my calls are redirected to they know the call is for me in advance.

However, as you have a dedicated mobile handset for the calls then is there any need to announce the call is for you?

Yeah, that's the sort of number it is! I know one of the VPs had the same problem as I overheard his PA attempting to sort it with the Indian service desk with infuriating results! Can't look for a user manual as it's just a normal HTC but somehow configured in a special way for the company?! Ahhh I just don't know! Thanks for your help though!

I expect you'll need the manual for the "DPD" service not your mobile handset.

When you are next at your desk (or maybe you have an online configuration service) see if you can gain details of the manufacturer & ring them direct (rather than your own organisation's "help"desk).

Alternatively, see if your desk handset can simply redirect all incoming calls to your mobile handset line (without using the "DPD" system).
