    Photo editing question/help

    Hello people

i hope someone can give me an idea of a decent/best photo editing software i would need to buy.

as a family thing for christmas i was thinking as me mum is in her 70's and has now gotten hold of some pics of her parents i wanted to make her something mixing some pictures together and on a couple of pics try improve them or get some marks off the background of one in particular actually

I am clueless about whats hot and whats not thought i'dd start here and see where i get for an idea for what i should be getting.

WIll rep those that help and give me reasons for whatever software they reckon i should go for

    cheers for reading at least

I use photoshop and love it Im lucky that hubby knows how to use most things on it so helps me out:)

Problem is, going for the better software you may find it is so complex that it becomes almost useless. I would recommend PaintShop Pro, it lends itself to both beginner and the more profficient users. Not sure if you can still get it as shareware to try it but it was never an expensive piece of software so not a major investment if you decide you want to do more complex operations

Before you buy anything try downloading a copy of The Gimp - it's free. Don't forget to use the tutorials too.

And if you can't get on with The Gimp here is a link to ]Paint.Net which is another FREE and powerful photo and image editor.
I've been using this for a year , maybe two and find it very good.
There is also a forum and help pages as well as some very good tutorials all accessible from the HELP tab within the program.

To be honest the best advice with these program is to practice (I.M.O) They are all fairly similar but with varying levels of power which makes it common sense to use a FREE program to start out.

If you need any more help shout and if I can I will although I'm far from expert. If you need any other help or whatever you can always post in ]THIS THREAD and I'm sure someone will be more than pleased to offer a hand or two

    Good Luck.
    (No need for rep BTW)
