Please can anyone recommend the best photo editing software in their experience? I have been using the new lightroom 3 from adobe, but would anyone advise on using others? (for either ease of use, or number of features).
One other question, anyone know how to create the effect of a b/w image with certain objects/people in full colour. and can this been done using lightroom? cant seem to get my head around the guidance in the manual!
Thanks!

I use Photoshop elements and you can do that partial black and White effect in that

nice one. I only installed lightroom as a member of the family had a copy they didnt want. will have a look at elements this evening.

you can easily create a layer cloning the original image and desaturate the top layer and then erase the bits you want in colour as the layer beneath will show through, as one option

chhers alfonse, this is the way I was going to do it having scanned google. Having not spent much time with lightroom or its heafty guidance notes wanted to make sure it was possible!

You could always give 'gimp' a try. Its free and should do the b/w effect you requested.

the more you experiment with it the better, find some tutorials to do, I always find that helps give you some nifty tips

does this work with RAW files though?

The B/W effect you mention is actually very easy to do in Lightroom, no need for layers as you basically 'paint' on the areas you want black and white with the choice to follow edges or not.

Just got lightroom sorted for the B/w with colour effects i was after. will still have a look at elements as well.

Imo lightroom is the best package available for what I need it for, depends what primary features you want

Lightroom is the best photo organising/editing software out there.

Anybody who thinks otherwise either hasn't used it or just hasn't explored it's capabilities.

i disagree... MS paint is far superior lol

Deluxe Paint on the Amiga ftw

Actually Elements 8 is fine for me. Light room is supposed to be great if you shoot in RAW and have lots of files to process, never used it though
