Plasma, LCD or led backlit? Also advice on home setup!

    Banned
I am looking at spending between £600-£900 on a 46" tv but am unsure what to look for! Can anyone tell me what they think would be best for this price range. I was set on led backlit due to the picture quality instore but would like other peoples opinion!

I am also about to buy a ps3 to play games and blu-rays from. I also have a BT vision box. I would like to know how I would go about setting up surround sound (haven't purchased anything for this yet) to get all of this connected up!

    Many thanks

I would opt for a 50" plasma every time

IMO, if ur playing ps3 100hz tv will be best and if you want a decent surround sound look for a tv with an optical input then a system to go with it

console games should be played at 50hz according to the BBC Click programme (stops the motion blur)

always plasma, LED's are getting closer to plasma but still not there

Rule out plasma due to screen burn, if you pause games or tv for a while it will burn to the screen. Buy led as abit brighter than LCD. There is loads of deals out there. Led is about 50-100 more than LCD.

From what i've read on forums is that the burn in is non-existent.
Are you aware of that ?

plasma TVs explode if you smoke near them.
    from a customer today

need to wear a tinfoil hat to reduce the size of brain tumours with plasma's

Plasmas will need the gas refilling after a while........

op - What will you be using the TV for? The backlit ones probably looked great in the shop as they were running a tip top blu-ray, if you will be mainly watching SD stuff then it may be different.

I personally have a Panasonic plasma and think it is great, especially for SD stuff

If you like watching Films then get a plasma and a Blu-ray player.

I was seriously considering the LED tv's , I thought they were supposed to be better than the lcd and plasma. it's just my opinion and i dunno too much about it.

brighter, but oversaturated colours, angle problems and slightly less power consumption but a higher price for the equivalent size TV.

    I'd go for a plasma.
    I did

    another urban myth

Plasmas have about 60,000 hrs of lifespan (27yrs of 6hrs a day use) or 7 yrs of continuous 24hr a day use (Which is probably your adverage TV lifespan any how).

    lol - I think you're right on reflection X)

    Plasma all the way....

They have far far far better black levels, plus a much more natural picture.. It's because Plasma technology has matured, LCD/LED hasn't...

While LCD/LED is great, i'd only ever recommend it if you were buying a TV for a conservatory due to some plasmas being more reflective than LCD/LEDs.

I've just purchased a Samsung 50" 3DTV (Plasma).. I did look at the 3D LED TVs currys had in, just don't like the over saturation of colour.

It won't be long until LCD/LED catches up completely with Plasma... Another 1/2 years... Then i'll buy one.
