plasma picture quality , a question

    Banned
Why do some programmes look clear and sharp and others look blurred? Even adverts vary quite a lot, Specsavers advert looks terrible whereas others look superb, is it to do with broadcast ?? Eastenders looks sharp whereas Holby City looks soft and blurry (the wife watches these ...ahem) any thoughts ??

    What receiver are you using?

If it's a Sky HD box, that may explain, as there have been quite a few complaints about Amstrad boxes giving poor SD picture quality, mine included.

I am using a Humax pvr 9300, but the plasma has built in freeview too and when switching quickly from one to the other quality is the same

I have the Humax PVR 9300 and have noticed it too. I think it's to do with the quality of the broadcast e.g. episdoes of Flash Forward are excellent but old episodes of Everyone Loves Raymond are pretty washed out.

I have a 40" Bravia W5500 and the integrated Freeview is actually better but as I wouldn't have the functionality of the PVR if I watched my progs on that I use the Humax all the time

It also depends on the bitrate of the channel, BBC for example uses a high bitrate where as the shopping channels may use a low one hence the difference in quality between them

I fully agree on the impact of bitrate, but Holby City and Eastenders are broadcast on the same channel. In this instance I would imagine that it's simply down to the quality of recording equipment and production values of the two programmes (I watch neither of them, lol).

Holby City is filmed using these new style cameras like the Bill isn't it ??
