Some will say LCD for the non burn in... But i game on my 42" Samsung plasma and Plasma's have the best responce time... so no blur when in fast motion. Also LCD does not offer deep contrast whereas plasma has really good dynamic contrast ratios... So i'd say get Plasma but LCD is still very good for gaming regardless.

It's 2010. Either will be fine.

im still none the wiser over the answer lol

LCD advantages - usually higher resolution due to smaller pixels since gas plasma cells tend to be difficult to miniaturise (hence LCD is more suitable for PC usage), use less energy since each gas plasma cell on plasma TVs require their own circuitry, weigh less, thinner (incredibly this is important for some people)

Plasma advantages - deeper blacks (NOT deeper contrast) since each gas plasma cell can be turned off individually whereas traditional LCD requires a permanent CCFL bulb to be lit so black pixels are produced by blocking light but some light will still seep through, higher contrast ratio due to the ability to produce deep blacks.

Dynamic contrast ratios are no better on plasma than on LCD. It is a software application that can reduce lighting in dark scenes and increase lighting on brighter scenes. It does NOT alter the contrast ratio because in dark scenes, bright pixels will be darkened and in dark scenes, dark pixels are brightened. This can lead to unsatisfactory pictures since the shades of white can suddenly darken or shades of black/gray suddenly brighten. It is best to turn this off.

For gaming, turn off 100 Hz because this produces virtual frames in between each of the 50 frames of a cycle by guessing pixel locations - this is not good for gaming. Also turn off other enhancements which processes the picture as this produces extra pixels or take away pixels. Again, not good for gaming.

I'm not surprised! You couldn't possibly have read any of them properly in 5 minutes

Seriously, like I said, it's 2010 mate, things have moved on. Any will be fine, really. Relax. Any differences will be really insigniicant and will in no way affect your gaming pleasure/prowess.

I have an LCD and would go with LCD over Plasma personally. Get one with a low response time which shouldn't be hard nowadays. Also most LCDs have a "Game Mode" which turns off all the additional processing that can be done that would slow things down. This is to minimise the time (usually in milliseconds) it takes for the signal coming from the console etc to be processed and displayed on the screen. Input lag is probably very very low already on most modern LCDs.

On my Samsung Series 5 40" I have never noticed a difference with the game mode on or off with picture quality or speed. I do agree with disabling 100hz etc as I hate the artificial look the frame doubling processing can cause. Another reason I just got a 50/60/24hz Samsung and not a 100/120hz. You might want to compare the 2 in a store and see what your eyes think.

Burn in I don't think is that likely nowadays on a plasma either. LED LCD TVs can have deeper blacks if they are not just "edge lit" as they can turn off the backlight in areas of dark blacks. If you watch a standard LCD in a dark room you can usually switch modes to lower the back light. Mine has "Energy Saving" modes and on low it just drops the backlight slightly and blacks are near black even in a dark room.

LCD or Plasma will show you a good picture anyway just get a 1080p TV with as many HDMI inputs as you can because you will need them in future.

Anyway enough waffling by me I had to make this decision and went with a Samsung Series 5 (can't remember the model but it's old now) LCD and have been very happy with it. I personally would say LCD.

Last thing I just remembered is Plasma I "think" can over time dim a little. The effect might be small and I think it's after a lot of years use so might not be a real issue and might not be the case now anyway.

This is where the entire argument falls on itts face.

1080p isnt "needed" same for loads of hdmi ports as by the time 1080p becomes mainsream(good few years at LEAST yet) then the next big thing will be out for tv's

Only thing 1080p is good for is blu rays and the such, and if using for pc obv the higher the resolution the more strain it puts on the graphics card, so not necessarily a great thing to have higest res but its a good thing to use the screens native resolution.
