    Plasterboard repair tips wanted please.

Ok, am doing my house up, I have plasterboard walls with dents, and holes in the walls, not all over or anything just some really big ones like the size of a fist, lol.

Tried polyfilla in the past but it just falls into the cavity wall.

Anyone got experience on the materials I would need for the job?

I intend to fill and sand and whitewash the walls.

    cheers.

Ideally, you need to cut back to the studs(usually around18 inches apart) and noggins(which are usually around 24/36 inches on top of each other), and replace a section of plasterboard.

Cut halfway along the timber so that you have space to screw the new piece to the stud.

I really need to find a diagram!

Get a cut out peice of plasterboard that's bigger than the hole, but able to be passed through. This needs to be pulled to the board and glued to it, by using string. (Once its set, you can get rid of the string!) Then you can fill, without the plaster falling through.

A quick google and] Ive just seen this, which is a longer winded version of the above!

Dont remove the existing plasterboard, unless the holes are massive. Suggestions to do so will cause you more work.

fill the holes with scrumpled up newspaper first - then use the polyfilla and sand off.

cut a little bit of plaster board and put a bit of string through it, then put it in the hole pull on the string and make sure the little bit of plaster is resting behind the hole. then use your polyfilla or patching plaster. The filla or plaster doesn't fall into the cavity and sticks to the sides of the hole. after cut the string flush to the wall and apply a bit more filla.

    ha. was too late

Pack the hole out with newspaper then gradually fill with filler a bit at a time letting it dry everytime, just build up the hole untill it's just proud of the surface then sand back.
Always works for me when I loose me temper.:whistling:

On the contrary. Its better to see more of the correct method of repair, rather than the suggestion of a fool to rip down plasterboards, for holes no bigger than fist size.

as plaster board is cheap, replace the whole sheet and then you have nice new surface to skim and nice flat walls
