    Play.com - Souled Out?

Yes, that's an intended spelling mistake in the title.

There was a time when Play was your little secret Aladdin's cave of cheap DVDs and Albums, but it just seems that now they're a big success they don't give a rat's tushy about their customers.

Deliberate misprices and listing items as 'in stock' when it's not actually been released, just to generate site traffic. Sneaky, very sneaky.

Must have had a change of management at some point. Tossers.

I dunno........customer loyalty extends as far as looking for the best possible price tbh.

Was it really that much better?

Play went downhill when they outsourced their customer service and made it hard to actually talk to a human. Even their "customer services manager" has very little discretion - had a very lengthy chat with him when my halo 3 special edition turned up looking like it had been used as a football. Didn't have a clue about SGA 79 as am or 2002 regs.

Totally agree. Was astonished when I rang customer care at the weekend having bought something which was £6.99 and was charged £9.99. I was quoted terms and conditions number (something or other can't remember now) states play.com reserves the right to charge what they like for an item. What you see isn't necessarily the price you pay. When I challenged this asking how you can display one price then charge another, I was met with a very rude response.

I will be exceptionally careful in the future IF I use them again!

I seriously have never had a problem with Play.com, was one time a DVD didn't show up - which an email put straight.

I still find a few bargains - the fifa09 for £19.99 last week was great.

    Maybe I'm just lucky lol

The thing about play is that this has been happening for ages. Its just taken the slower among us to figure it out. Now they are moaning.

Pricing errors - How can a company know how much a product will be before they have even set a price. Also some systems require a price before it can be entered into the database.
In stock listings - They have been doing this for ages. Once they get a product in stock, they change its status on the website. You will still get it when its supposed to be released though.

i agree, especially with them being the only site with psp gps on pre order at 30quid and then sending an email to say its not happening on release date.

    Hark at Johnny First there.

I agree, play.com used to be my "go to" place and although I agree the reason i don't use them as much these days is partly due to the amount of competition out there. I was fed up at the lack of loyalty they seem to have toward it's customers. I still use them but shop around a lot more now before buying.

For every 50-100 items ordered a £5 voucher would be a nice gesture... but then that goes the same for all.

I have to agree in part with what you say, 99.9% of the stuff that I order is in stock and gets delivered pretty sharp too. But a few things I've had to cancel.

In particular there was a Krusell Leather phone case I had preordered about 3 weeks before its release. On the day of release it said in stock for all of 5 minutes then went out of stock...needless to say that my order was never processed.....5 weeks down the line I cancelled the order and bought from elsewhere.

Yer well the thing is they used to be cheap as they came from jersey but now most do and they just cant be bothered to compete - best secret now imo is thehut for cheap films

Havent bought a DVD or CD in a couple of years now. Sold all the ones that I own. I'd rather get them from the internet. Way I see it is that I'm fed up with companies shafting the consumer....me in particular.....so until they deliver the service they should be providing and supplying top quality goods for the prices they charge, then its fair game as far as I'm concerned.

I've already been conned out of over £100 this year by online retailers taking payment and not delivering or refunding me. Thats over and above the carp that I've received in substandard goods that I've paid a fair whack for.

Until they get their act together I'm quite happy getting what I can take for free.
