    play.com warranty

Anyone had trouble with play.com over their warranty's?
I bought a Sony TV from them 13 months ago with a free 3 warranty or so i thought, last week the TV broke down now they are saying that it only had 1 year, and that its Sony,s problem and that they are the one,s who the warranty is with.
    Sony say its play's problem??????????

Are you sure it wasn't a 1 year warranty with them and a further 2 with the manufacturer?

Doesn't the Sale of Goods Act say you have up to 6 years warranty?

Sony are saying that they only had a 1 year manufacturers warranty, so are play, i have the delivery document which says "with free 3" and then plays product code hides the word warranty.
I'm going to send them a copy, watch this space..!

I bought my Sony TV from amazon, same deal - free 3 yr manufacturer warranty so I registered it straight away online. I think your beef is with Sony.

It is a reasonable expectation that a Sony TV would last longer than 13 months. Had you paid £100 for a cheap no brand TV, then it breaking down after 13 months would not really be a suprise. I'm guessing that you paid a reasonable price for the TV so I would suggest you give Consumer Direct a call and get their view of the world.

Would that be Consumer Direct, Jersey? Play.com, the retailer, are not a UK or EU company so are not governed by our consumer legislation.

Play.com is in Jersey, Consumer Direct can't do much.

    Neither can trading stds.

What was the date of purchase and what is the model number?

Did you register for the warranty ?

"Once you have purchased the TV you have to fill in and a form and send it off to an address in Leicester. The gurantee scheme is being administered by Domestic and General. After sending the form you get a certificate sent to you. It is an excellent deal and is the same as the one that Amazon are/were offering on Sony LCD's. "
