You can always sign up to www.continuousplay.co.uk It is an insurance policy that is run on behalf of Sony to cover machines that are out of warranty. It costs £6 a month, and you can claim as soon as your policy is activated, and they will swap your console for a refurbished one. There is no set term to how long you need to maintain the policy.

I've always wondered if that's too good to be true, seems like I can run my PS3 into the ground - then immediately take out continuous play and claim my free refurb lol.

Mind you I paid full whack for my PS3 on release so I'd deserve a free refurb tbh.

Why no luck with Sony? What did you say, and what did they say?

My DH has signed up for the continuous play after reading some of the forums on playstation.com - I personally am a technophobe - so the info above came from him - apparantly a lot of owners sign up & claim very quickly. But I can't personally vouch for that working.
Hope the info is of some help tho - as they are an expensive little ornament if they arent working properly!

bear in mind that this is insurance fraud with a possible prison sentence if found out (albeit unlikely).

Absolutely - which is why I can't vouch for the policy- only repeating what has been said on the playstation forums. I don't even play the PS3 - I have a ds & love it, but I did clock up a lot of hours many moons ago in the pre-children days

ps3 breaks, then taking out an insurance policy and claiming for a breakdown. Clearly fraud in the same way if you took out a life assurance policy for someone who died yesterday :whistling:

nope not exactly true the terms and conditions would dictate any exemptions and its hardly a good analogy death of a person and death of a ps3!!

you cant replace a person ffs

nowhere within the terms and conditions of the continuous play contract does it say that if you have a faulty item already you cannot take it out with them also it does not take away your statutory rights.

oh ffs! Are people really this dumb?

not the best analogy but you obviously don't understand basic insurance principles and i cant be bothered to explain them to you as it will obviously go straight over your head :whistling:

well saying i used to work for an insurance company ive probably more of an idea than somebody comparing a replacement service for a ps3 console to somebody taking out insurance on somebody who died yesterday

completely different scenarios and completey different practices put in place to stop it happening

oh well some people think they know it all but actually know nothing and dont have the nonce to substantiate their claims

like i said there is nothing in the terms and conditions to say you cannot pay for the continuous play policy and then claim

if you check any life insurance policy there will be numerous terms and conditions to stop that from happening

but a man of your intellectual calibre would not understand insurance policies:whistling:
