    Playstation 3 Questions

I'm new to the Playstation 3 and the missus has ordered me one today as a Blu-Ray player (resut!)...

Now, just had a quick look, and it seems it only comes with a standard AV Cable.

I only have component on my TV, but looking at AV Forums, suggests that using a component cable downscales Protected Content (which seems to be meaning Blu-Ray Discs).

Looking at a quick reference manual, it shows the component output as being capable of handling 720P, 1080i and 1080P... hence the confusion...

Also, looking at reviews of cheap cables seems to bring up issues on ghosting. Where would you get a cable from or what do you recommend?

Also (again), I have a 5.1 system for the 360 (Pioneer HTP jobby) and it has a spare optical input... does the PS3 have optical out?

I just got a HDMI cable and it looks much better than component well the colours are sharper and colournot as dull.

So if you have HDMI get tthat, and yes the PS3 has optical out.

V2 i think it is for the HDMI cable, it is to get. Deff worth getting that, makes all the difference.

If your TV does not have a HDMI input, then I would guess that it is only 720p compatible, so using component with bluray would have no detriment to you in any case. I don't think that most Bluray disc implement the copy protection system, so they should play fine at 720p (or indeed 1080p) over analogue (component).

Happy to be corrected by anyone if this is not the case :-)

I use the 360 at 720P, but it is capable of 1080i (although I think 720P runs smoother).

So, for the time being, 720P would be fine until a new TV is bought...

    Cheers for the help.

Doesn't seem to be the case...

I only have 1 x Bluray to test it with, but even though everything is set to 720P, it seems to downscale to 576i whenever I play the disc.

Anyone know of any way around this without the need to purchase a new TV?

Seems a bit odd that the PS3 cannot do this when the Xbox360 can (with added HD-DVD Drive). Would have thought this is something that Sony would have wanted to sort out as soon as it was found to be an issue...
