Please Advice Interim or Full service

Grand Scenic Diesel...1.5Dci
Car is due service and was last serviced in March... got the car 2 months later.
Am torn between interim or full service... is it worth full service although 99% of me wants to do the full service dont just know if its worth it.

car is ex fleet car done 90k + car is 06reg.

Depends on the manufacturers standard but I think 3 years on most cars is a major service, check with Renault or just google it. It really is that easy.

How many miles have you done since March? I only ask because i have the 1.9DCi model and a service is only needed every 18000miles or 2 years (whichever comes first)

I'm assuming he must have hit the mileage maximum as it was only serviced 6 months ago.

An interim service is an oil change
I would go to national tyres they charge £36.00 for oil and oil filter change if booked on line
Also they will stamp you service history but your car will not hold more money with or without stamp.

Got the car in June, car hasnt been used since serviced in march, only done just under 2k miles but car is showing change oil soon message.

Just because the oil light is on dosent mean it needs an oil change it might not have been reset last time

Thanks so far, reps coming yall way, but more advice, I have to book service now.

Just checked my service book and if you had a service in March & it hadn't been used until you bought it then it should show service due approx 18000miles not 1800miles?! Are you sure it was serviced or did they just forget to reset it last time?

Unfortunately servicing the 1.9dci only every 18,000 miles is asking for trouble. It should have an interim oil change every 9,000 miles.

Actually , you might be right.. I ll go have a look, am sure it was serviced.. and maybe they did reset the counter, but I thought I read somewhere that diesel cars should be serviced like every 6 months or 6000 miles or so..not sure.

Thanks for the info, it's only done 4000miles since the last service in March but i'm taking it to National Tyres for an oil & filter change later this month. Is it worth getting anything else done before 18000miles or just the oil?

Something doesn't sound right, you either need to have driven the car x miles or it be y months since the last service for a service to be due. X and Y will be in your service booklet and on the"myrenault" website. The car service computer will report when it is (I think) within 800 miles of the next service mileage or within a month of the next service date.

Why would you only do an interim service and not follow the recommended service schedule? The 1.5 dci needs a decent quality of oil, so make sure you are aware of that.

The driver for a 9k service interval is to avoid turbocharger failure which the 1.9dci can suffer due to poor servicing and a fragile turbocharger. When this happens, the turbocharger will suck your oil from the sump and the engine will burn it, the engine will run at maximum RPM and you will be unable to stop the car unless you put it into 6th, handbrake on, brake on and quickly let up your clutch. Nice hey. Renault dcis are not alone in this.

You just need to ensure you get an interim oil change with oil filter every 9k. This doesn't guarantee anything, but it does increase your chances. You need to ensure that the correct oil is used, the 1.9 dci is a modern diesel engine and doesn't like poor oils.

I assume it doesn't have a FAP (particulate filter)? If it is a DCI 120 it doesn't, if it is a DCI 130 then it probably does have. If it is have a FAP, it needs a very specific and expensive oil so make sure anybody that doesn't the oil change is aware of that.

I ll go have a look, will back. What I have know of cars is that even though the computer says 18k before next service, sometimes you dont get to use the whole 18k before the "service due" message coms up again, putting in mind the car is been used in the city with short stops and breaking and traffic etc.

Your model of Scenic does not have variable servicing, it is just a simple timer and mileage count. Any differences with use are covered in the manual and will suggest you half the interval.

Yes, mine's the DCI 120 & only had it since March. Yesterday morning it ran a bit rough and sounded loud so i'm going to National Tyres today now (if they can fit me in) for an oil & filter change and the free check they do. It might just be because it's getting colder and is probably nothing to worry about - or something different. If there is a turbocharger problem, you should first notice a louder whistling under boost.

I have the Tesco Finest warranty for mine which helps me worry less. Diesels used to run no matter what, now high pressure injection and more turbocharging means lower reliability. The new 2.0 dci is a lot better for this though.

I took out the warranty direct insurance as i had read about the electronic dash going on a few scenics. Haven't noticed a louder whistling but hit a big pothole a month or so back and not really ran the same since.....probably need my tracking/wheel balance sorting as well

Not read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been said......

Interim services are exactly that. You only get these if you are going to do 10k miles every 6 months or less.

You need the full service every year, so you just need to work out how many miles your going to do in a year.

I do 10k miles every 10 months or so, so get a full service done every 10 months.

If I was doing say 30k a year, I'd get an interim service done every 10 miles (4 months), then a full service done for the 3rd one (i.e Month 4 = Interim, Month 8 = Interim, Month 12 = Full).

Yep, also look on www.renaultforums.co.uk if you have any problems, issues usually have been experienced before and some have simple fixes.

That's the problem, it makes you worry (somewhat) unnecessarily. I had a Megane II 1.9dci for nearly 2 years and 20k and only had general wear and tear and glow plug replacement. The important thing is to find a decent Renault specialist in your area and stick with them if you ever have any problems. All cars have problems.
