    he/they listed 1 here 2 days ago as jacksmith123

    hotukdeals.com/ite…3gs?

the same 1 was listed on avforums under jacksmith898

they are also listed on gumtree several times at once!

    avforums.com/for…tml

another trick they are using is dealing via PM. they see someone selling something then create a user account close to theres by adding a fullstop (eg quiddity because quiddity. ) they then contact possible buyers saying they are the seller & do a deal.
    thats it, money gone!

please read here fo more info on this/these scum!

yeah maybe for the time being until they are caught it should be at the top of the for sales

    Isn't this two different scammers?

As always it's worth bearing in mind 'if it looks too good to be true, it probably is' - I can't believe that scammer has managed to get 350 pounds for the Macbook, he had no feedback, was selling it suspiciously low and was also selling an Iphone 3GS at a low price.

i think he ment my original post which linked to the hukds thread again rather than avforums

What on earth is the fullstop trick?:?

Basically the scammer registers an account identical to an existing account being used for selling but puts a full stop after it. They then contact the person who has had an offer declined and claim they've changed their mind and will take their offer after all pointing back to the original seller's account for feedback. Of course they take the money and it disappears.

For example, if you were offering a laptop for sale at 300 pounds and someone offered you 250 pounds which you decline, I can then register an account Jumpingphil. and PM the member offering them the laptop at 250 pounds. The person think they're dealing with you but of course they're not.

I think it's peoples own fault?

i have to agree with you.

price is cheap - to good to be true
dealing via PM - you know you arent supposed too!
sending £300 to a newbie without checking contact details - money to burn!

    Forumites of Britain unite :viking:

At least all the members of each respective forums with classifieds sections now know to be vigilant with the warnings now crossing all the forums . The full stop username trick is an ar5e and i can see why people have fallen for it but i'm with others here in that its the users stupidity to pay over £300 to someone they don't know with absolutely no feedback. Ludicrous:shock:

As well to give it a stranger in the street. I just hope these thieving clowns get whats coming to them as i would be very  if they scammed me.

Don't know what the legality is with naming and shaming with pictures of said people but i'd certainly post them if i knew who they were.

    good spotting guys!

shame this isnt like avforums where it can be stickyed at the top, so we'll just have to keep bumping!

as for naming & shaming, its part of avforums policy to do it & as he/they joined there then they do. thats why i've not mentioned it here.

another trick they use is to put spaces in there mobile number so that its harder to search for. try searching on google for iphone 3gs 07933 & you'll find them! you'll have to look at them cached though as they've been removed now after i reported them
what they also do is get you to text the number. if you ring they dont answer the phone!

Been trying it on HUKD … Been trying it on HUKD too.http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/543134/iphone-3gs-32gb-brand-new-sim-freehttp://www.hotukdeals.com/item/543140/htc-hd2-sim-free-brand-new

    hmmmm they look familiar!

    avforums.com/for…tml

I do think it was extremely stupid to send 350 pounds to a newly registered seller with no feedback selling a Macbook Pro well under the market price especially when they were also selling an Iphone 3GS 32GB also for low cost.

Aside from the stickies I liked the 'fake' bargain sales the moderators posted in each forum to draw people's attention then point them back to the scammer information thread.
