Please help! Advice needed about Ebay

Evening all, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I listed my phone on ebay and clicked the box to say that I would only send it in the UK and whilst I was out for lunch I had an offer for £100 for my old phone which I thought was excellent so I accepted not knowing that this person was from Spain. I am a bit worried now about being scammed. Please could anyone tell me the safest way for me to proceed with this transaction and not be shafted by someone if they do turn out to be a scammer.
Any advice is very much appreciated and many thanks in advance, rep given for help.

hi there the same happened me before tell them just the item wont be posted until you have the funds out of paypal and cleared in your bank if you wait until then to post you cant go wrong

make sure they pay via pay pal and you post via signed for..

easier just to cancel transaction..

e-mail ebay and say you don't post outside uk, you'll gwt fees back and relist.

best setting your preference too

they can still claim money back upto 45 days after sale, wether its in paypal or not

post recorded/ signed for

signed for delivery too.. fully insured (but bear in mind, Royal Mail don't pay out unless you have receipt/ proof of purchase) Lady at Post Office counter said to me when I was posting a camera to someone..

I had the receipt though (in the package!) doh.

Most importantly check there feedback and also bid history.

If you have any doubts refund any payment you receive

if you decide to send it , make sure it is packed well and send it traceable and insured

best of luck

i wouldnt proceed with it, as i think paypal will hold the money till he leaves you feedback , and if theres any problem with them saying they didnt get it then paypal will probably side with them.

They will pay out with copy of the paypal and ebay payment page ( i have claimed before like that)

sorry to hear of your plight but the golden rule about E bay etc if it seems to good to be true then it usually is!!I'd be tempted to e mail them and say sorry uk deli only as per your listing.

Many thanks, the only worry I have about that is if they pay by a credit card and then come back for some bull excuse then can they take money back from me? The phone is described correctly but some people in my mind complain even if there's nothing to complain about

Hi Clare,
You might want to check the buyer's feedback for this user and also make sure you get paid via paypal and it is visible on you paypal account at www.paypal.com and not at all by email. Also RM tracked parcels are no longer tracked after they have left the UK border so track and insure if you are sending - did you wipe the phone, take out SIM and SD cards?
Hope this helps.

^^^^that

cancel the sale and save yourself a whole load of grief

they can do that in the uk too..

and it doesn't matter how the paypal payment is funded..

set your selling preference, you can do it so noone can bid outside uk if u want

wat is the item number?

Ebay item number 120505140833

Expensive items i don't send overseas,it's not worth the potential hassle.

To stop people bidding from countries you do NOT ship to you need to go into MyEbay and set up buyer requirements.

Myebay>site preferences>buyer requirements.

For future reference when selling in the UK for something that expensive you need to send it Special Delivery so it's insured for loss etc.

check out their feedback etc

what is their usser name?
(i have over 1500+)

My OH is saying just tell him to do a bacs payment and then he can't retract the funds but I don't fancy giving my details to someone I don't know let alone in another country

tell him to pay by western union, that way you are completely safe, tell him you won't cancel the auction till you have collected the money though

Its easy if they have good feedback then send it, once payment has been recived in paypal(have sent abroad before) use recorded delivery then you are covered.

If the buyer is not happy they have to send back first before refund is made, And if they send a brick back instead of a phone (or whatever you sent) you can tell paypal and they will sort it for you.

Does not matter where you send items these days there are scammers out there thus check feedback first.

Note on feedback having lots dont mean nothing look what they have bought they could have 100 feedback on 1p items then get you, if they have been good buyers on different stuff you will be ok

Very true you can take the money and no comeback too

It's really not worth the potential problems you will have, personally I'd just email and say you didn't realise they weren't in the UK and relist.

I don't know how you managed to send RD overseas, that's impossible.

Perhaps you mean ISF and even then it's not guaranteed.

Just ask at post office "parcelforce" and yes they do

That's not what you said previously,ParcelForce is completely different to RD.

lol yeah but still at post office and RD you use if in UK as i said scammers are not just abroard but over here too, cover your back when you send anything unless you dont mind loosing your money

The OP is obviously not familiar with posting overseas so i was trying not to confuse her, which she would be if she went into the PO and asked for RD,then it was overseas they would assume it's ISF and that doesn't cover phones.

The Ebay account doesn't appear dodgy on the face of it,BUT a Paypal chargeback can be made etc so as i previosuly said it's probably not worth the potential hassle.

I dont think she has a problem sending the item to spain but is asking the safest way on doing the transaction!

"Please could anyone tell me the safest way for me to proceed with this transaction and not be shafted by someone if they do turn out to be a scammer." as the OP states

The way i said is safe but if unsure ether call ebay/or cancel.

If you call ebay/paypal they will leave notes on her account and this helps if any problems.

Please dont be scared of posting out of the uk if they have good feedback

IN situations like this many sellers are NOT au fait with the pitfalls of selling overseas,at least if they are aware of them then they can decide whether it's in their best interest to send overseas or not, that's all i'm doing here.

If you can't afford to take the loss then defo do not send overseas.

Use someone like DHL to deliver it, then you should be covered by Paypal seller protection, if its ineligable then cancel the trade
