Please recommend a tablet with 3g/4g for autistic child

I have shared custody of my daughter who is autistic. She suffers very badly with anxiety when she is not with me, and I've found that skyping her eases this issue.

She currently has the amazon fire 7" but as it doesn't have mobile web its no use outside of wifi range.

I thought about getting a cheap mobile, but a tablet would be better for all-round use.

Ideally i'd like to get her the iPad mini4, but i just can't afford one at the moment.

Main requirements, 3g/4g, around 8", 2gig of ram

Can anyone please suggest a suitable alternative? Most seem to be wifi only.

    Cheers,

I'd like to keep it integrated so it's simpler to use. Also we tend to find a lot of websites don't work too great on the 7" fire.

Hi op have you thought about getting one on a pay monthly basis bit like a phone you get a tablet with sim and data for x amount a month. Android based tablets around £15 a month and iPads around £23 a month that way you have the 3G/4g tablet and data to go with it

Then might I suggest buying a mifi device second hand that will take the sim and then you can connect the wifi only tablet to it when you're out and about

As mentioned above, i really need it to be integrated. If she is stressing out she won't want to have to try and turn on an extra device and make sure another device is charged.

    £200

If you really want the iPad mini 4,the mobile data version is available for £24 a month from Apple interest free. Its not really a deal but could be of some use.

or the iPad mini 2 is £17.24 a month

This might be of no use, but after Christmas, might you find something in budget at Game or Cex or similar if someone was 'upgraded'?

A refurbished iPad mini 2 is £269 or £13 a month direct from Apple with cellular connectivity.

Why did you look at the mini 4 vs the mini 2?

Because the mini 2 only has 1 gig of ram which means it will be unsupported pretty soon, and all newer apps are geared for 2 gig.

i bought the mini 2 last year for my son ( he gets frustrated when things dont work and insists things must be 'fixed' even when they cant be ☺️) and the mini 2 is always fast and responsive for most apps a child would need at that age its still a smooth experience.

I picked up an iPad Mini 2 from Argos through eBay for under £200 - have a look on there. If you only want it for Skyping your daughter and a few other things, then it should be alright
