My broadband is with Plusnet. I was paying £6.49/mth until they decided I needed a larger usage allowance and put me on Plusnet extra which is £11.49/mth. Ok I thought, more time on the internet. I noticed pages were taking longer to load though, looked into it and have realised my speed has been decreased to 500Kb. I was not aware this would happen. Do any other companies do this?

Plusnet.. ewww.

Seriously dude, at the end of your contract - or if you've already done it - you wanna get onto O2, Be or Cable with Virgin Media - if possible

Been with Plusnet for the last 5 years never had a problem with them at all. They do have a good rep, give them a call.

They've had very mixed reviews, See here for example Plusnet Review.

I've never heard anything good about them and personally wouldn't ever switch to them.

Just read the reviews, thanks shauneco. I will be leaving as soon as my contract let's me.

Have been with Plusnet for a few months.Never had a problem, fast internet and CS respond promptly if needed.
Interesting point though as i'm sure i signed up for value and had my bill in for a different service. Will check this out now!

Plenty of good reviews out there too, I'm afraid it's the same everywhere more people are likely to complain than praise.

It's also about how a company deals with things if things do go wrong thats why I said it's worth giving them a call and giving them a chance to put it right, you might even end up better off

To some degree this is true, However the very fact that theirs a lot of negative reviews and in general bad press especially regarding customer service and slow speeds would suggest that they are in general not as good as some other ISP's.

02 and BE are in general very highly regarded to be the best providers.

In my personal experience the worse ISP I've had was Virgin Media, Expect you to phone a premium rate number for support..!!! Over charge you and throttle speeds like mad.

BT were terrible with their call centres in India, I had a poxy 256kb speed and it took them about two weeks to sort it out, Even then my original speed was 2mb and the new maximum I could get was 1.6mb.

Switched to Sky broadband and they have been great so far for nearly a year with no faults and a slight increase in speed up to about 2mb and no throttling.

Not great but the best speed my phone line will support since I'm so far from the exchange..!!!

02 and BE are at my nearest exchange but won't provide me a service simply because I'm too far away..!!!
