    Pocket PC Experience?

    Hello all

Has anyone had any experience of Pocket PC?? I've seen the Dell one and an Acer one. It needs to be wi-fi so that I can surf the net at home.

I know very little about these little fellas and before I post in deal request... leading upto christmas.... I thought I'd start reserching, but if anyone would like to give me their point of view I'm all ears

    Thanks in advance

I've got a Dell Axim x50 with built in bluetooth and wireless.

I use it mainly as a calender and for SatNav but i've also used it to play games and watch compressed movies.

All of which it does without a problem.

Bought it new about a year ago i think and it cost me £196 (convinced work to pay the vat for me).

    Any specific questions you have?

    Hi ace_dynamo, thanks for reply.

Well I think the main use for this will be email, calander, word, excel, and and the ability to surf the internet through the wi-fi connection. I was wondering how well web pages are displayed / readable.

    Cheers

The web is the only thing I find my HP2210 does not do well, I have only tried it Bluetoothed to my mobile but there are not many pocket PC compatible sites abou that display well in the screen. I know google have a PPC version, might be better now there are more smart phones about as I have not tried it for over a year.

I used to use a pocket pc. I surfed the web using wifi from home and used it for work etc. I found it really handy as I could remote desktop into my pc over the net and control my home computer from wherever. I was using the XDA IIi which is also a mobile phone. Pay attention to battery life on these babies as they can fair chew through the power.

I am using my MDA Vario (which is a hybrid - PDA+phone) for all kind of things - MP3 and DivX player, web radio at home (via WiFi), Internet browsing (GPRS is quite slow), Hotmail, MSN messenger, etc.
I also like Bluetooth feature and I am using it in conjunction with my Parrot handsfree kits in my cars. Satnav isn't an issue for me as I installed Blaupunkt satnav in my car (I hate those transferrable things like TomTom). But I know many people are using PDAs as satnavs with Bluetooth receivers.

    I have the O2 xda mini s
    the best I used

And I have an Eten M600. It's very similar to the Orange M600, MDA Mini and Imate Jamin but it's got a faster 400 Mhz processor (compared to 200Mhz in others) and a longer battery life. It is slightly thicker though (due to the higher capacity battery) but only 1.5mm I think which is not too bad and it uses a standard battery that you can get cheaply on eBay if you need to replace it in a year or two.

I use it for everything, Satnav when I'm in the car (with the help of a bluetooth GPS receiver), Word, Excel, E-mail, Web Radio, VoiP calls (it runs Skype), Internet browsing at home and work and it's got Wi-Fi of course .

It is the best I've ever used. If I am to buy anything else I would buy the Imate Jamin mainly for the Imate-Club free subscription (which is based on the IMEI so only works if you have an Imate) as it's full of free useful software.

When comparing the processor bear in mind the others using 200Mhz such as the XDA Mini S are using a dual core processor so they're not as slow as they look on paper. The M600 also lacks a keyboard which I find is essential for PDA usage.

    what John said
the keyb of Mini S is excellent

The OMAP CPU in K-Jam (MDA Vario) and MDA Compact II is easily overclockable, BTW.

any links Kommunist? or PM me...
    thanks

]Oveclocking HTC Wizard. HTC Wizard is same as T-Mobile MDA Vario. This should work for other OMAP-based devices like HTC Charmer (MDA Compact II).

Here is ]discussion on how to make overclocking permanent (I haven't tried this one).

BTW, if you'll kill your device, don't blame me My MDA Vario is running @ 240MHz but not permanently.

    thanks Kommunist
does the OC make a noticeable difference?

Yes, especially for DivX playback Try it and see for yourself.
You can easily benchmark device before and after OC by using TCPMP benchmarking feature.

    thanks
    I'll try it
