Police in the UK are planning to use unmanned spy drones, controversially deployed in Afghanistan, for the "routine" monitoring of antisocial motorists, protesters, agricultural thieves and fly-tippers, in a significant expansion of covert state surveillance.

I find this so over the top. It's bad enough that we have CCTV on every building and street, but having spy drones everywhere is such a breach of privacy.
What's next? Robocop?

Great stuff.. I have nothing to hide...

Ghillie and a air rifle = problem sorted!

Actually it I can see these being used to gain "street cred" if you take one down!

Lol, i wish it could be that easy to shoot them down. But they can fly up to 20,000ft or higher.

But would you really want one with the ability to watch what you do even in the privacy of your own garden? I have my own CCTV set-up for my own security with instant online back-up.

Say your partner wants to sunbathe topless, how would you feel if the drone did a flyby?

Exactly.
Or an even worse case is someone hacking into the spy drone (Happened recently in Iraq)
And then use the drones information to perform criminal acts.

Most passenger planes fly at around 30,000 or 40,000ft

Yes but of course they can work out a system where there will be no chaos. They would probably just treat the drone as like any other plane, and therefore prevent collisions.
The sky is massive.

Unlikely many forces could afford these. Police are making massive cuts not spending.

However, I would say, if you are reading about it then it is already happening...and yes, we are living in surveillance state. I wouldn't say necessarily the police will have these yet, but i am sure they have access anyway through military or other means if the need arose. Sure the helicopters do most of what is required anyway except for covert.

I'm all for it...in fact, I will fully support the use of TomaHawk Cruise Missiles to take out the Corsa Cruisers and any other motorist in the UK that puts other road users and pedestrians at risk because of their lazy wreckless driving.

Edit : Especially those drivers who sit at 50mph on the outside lane of a dual carriageway or motorway. We should have Apache Gunships patrolling those highways specifically to take those ******* out.....

okay, Monday morning blues over with...I'm off to work... :w00t:

Is it just me that lives in an area with police helicopters?

What is the problem? If you're a law abiding citizen then this can only help you? A few daily mirror readers online I see.

got more chance of google doing it before the police do..........oh yeah especially since all police forces budgets are being cut!

Wreckless? :-D Even a spellchecker wouldn't save you from that one!

Obviously this will affect the OP significantly more then the rest of us.

With his views on terrorism and western countries he will probably have one buzzing over his head 24/7

I have nothing to hide but object on the grounds that its a waste of money and this country has more CCTV than any other country and not 1 has solved a crime......

and the police force cuts this year will be large so they need to actually keep up the service they are currently providing rather than let it drop for the sake of remote control aeroplanes

ridiculous

Really doesn't bother me, but I just don't believe the story full stop.

Depends how you define 'solved'. If you mean; put on a dearstalker, smoked a pipe, donned a cape and caught criminals with the help of an assistant called Watson, then you are right, CCTVs have never done this. :whistling:

Otherwise, they prevent or catch people in the act or commiting 100s of crimes a day.

Maybe you were just trying to write the stupidest post of the day, congratulations, no one else has come close!

At least they could save the expense for you. Leaving the bedroom at your parents house must be so rare it wouldn't be worth the effort.

I'm quite happy at any initiative to combat terrorism, although since Susan Boyle announced she was a virgin, there was been a marked reduction in suicide bombings. Way2go Subo.:-D

Well that's the technology that they should keep using instead of drones...helicopters.
They don't have to spend money on drones and also their upkeep in that case. And we would be able to see if we are being spied on, unlike invisible drones.

Not many cases have been solved by the hundreds of thousands of CCTV camera's already in place.
To have camera's in the street for example in banks, shops etc is understandable.
But to have invisible movable camera's where they can spy on you anywhere? Not good at all.
Just such an invasion of privacy.
Yes i'm a law abiding citizen, but i'm sick of even things like being scanned dozens of times at airports etc. It's far too over the top in this country.
Spy drones would push it over the edge.

With your view's, you would have anti-racism drone's trying to catch you out 24/7, they would make loads of money.

hence the word "controversially"

They didn't say anywhere about them being used against terrorists (Which drones would have been a logical way to counter)
It's obvious that they just want to use these to spy on everyone, i mean who gives a monkey's about fly-tipping out of all the crimes carried out in the country?

so you were wrong then as they do solve crime which you clearly stated didnt happen :whistling:

in any case, I thought the whole idea of cctv was to deter crime so this whole thread is moot :-D

Not going to happen - most crimes occur in built up areas and I suspect tower blocks etc will limit the effectiveness. Personally I think every person living in the UK (or visting long-term) should be on the DNA register.......

If you are not a criminal then why would CCTV bother you?
I couldnt care less if "big brother" is watching me out in public.

Thats a pretty ignorant statement tbh, the amount of crimes solved or given leads to solving is actaully a lot higher than 0 i think you will find.
