    Police....Has anyone experienced this?

    Hiya
i'll make this as short as possible. Ive been out most of the weekend, but last night hubby went to the shop and our neighbour collared him. She told him that on Friday morning after we had all gone to work a police van and car pulled up outside and about 6 police were hammering on my front and back door. The neighbour came out to see what was going on because it sounded like they were kicking my doors in. They then started asking her questions about who lived in my house and then described a male to her and gave a name that i'd never heard of. and said someone had told them that he was staying at my address. She informed them that she had never seen anyone fitting that description at my house and that we never had any strangers staying, and gave our names to the police.

My worry is that they will come back again while i'm out at work and kick my doors in for real. I've never heard of the person they are looking for, and it's embarrassing to have police at the door anyway. I've no idea which police station they have come from so i can't phone up to see what is going on.

Phone your local police station as a place to start.

What have you done now ?? :whistling:

A question to be raised with the Chief Constable in your area I think

That seems really strange, I can understand why you are concerned.

To be honest, if it was me I'd take the bull by the horns and go and see the police to find out what its all about. (as mentioned by everyone above)

Take control of the situation, the alternative is to be constantly worrying about if / when they will call again. ((hugs))

Might be a good idea ..............

Phone your local station, explain just as you have done so above and they will point you in the right direction. As scary as it sounds you can't live day to day worrying what you're going to find when you get home. We have people coming into my work all the time who have had the police at their door (though I work for criminal defence lawyers) a lot of the time the police really do want them but sometimes they don't and have wrong address. Phone them as soon as you can to get it cleared up. Good luck!

yep-call your local station and express your concern-sounds to me like the got the wrong address and have realised their mistake. If they were at back and front door and mob handed, they would have been back by now methinks.

also,if they hadnt realised their mistake,I reckon they would have gone into the house whether you were there or not-coming mob handed means they were after something serious-they arent gonna let your neighbour tip you off and get rid of evidence if you were the REAL address they were after.

Call your local police station, find out what's going on and cooperate with them to prevent what looks like bad police intelligence save you having a police van at your to-be broken in door.

And to answer your question, no I have not.
    Hope everything works out.

Its not beyond question that they may be acting on incorrect info.
I have had police knock at my door 3 times in the last year saying they have had an indication that an alarm is going off.
Each time there are at least 4 officers. I have no doubt that they are acting on information recieved but someone (alarm comapany or whoever), has entered details for the wrong address. I feel sorry for the person who may have the alarm going off though as the police are unlikely to attend there if they are coming to me.

There is no obvious damage. I think they were just knocking really hard. It just sounded like they were kicking it in i think.

Set up a booby trap in case they come knocking again
