Portable gaming laptop wanted

Posted 15th Dec 2019
Hi all,

Looking for recommendations to upgrade my 2012 MacBook Air which has past its best.

Key things I want (in order of importance):

Budget - looking to spend £600 max (happy to buy used).

USB C Charging - I travel a lot (a lot!) and would like to be able to charge on the go either via a USB port (like on a plane/Train/ power bank). I know not all will be able to deliver the amount of power needed to charge. Happy to corrected if anyone thinks I’m going down the wrong path with this need.

Portability - 12/13“ seems ideal to me. Not too fussed about weight.

Casual Gaming - would like to be able to casually game on recent titles (but not fussed about running everything on high settings).

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

£600 on a gaming laptop won't get you much. They are still well overpriced in comparision to desktops.
Not looking to play Crysis at extreme settings. But maybe GTA 5 or fortnite etc on lower settings.
Fortnite will be fine, there's plenty of laptops with a 1650 in them for around £600.
Just noticed something else about your requirements being 12-13, i think you'll find most gaming laptops will be 15.6 or bigger.
Unfortunately gaming laptops don't really come smaller than 15", but this 14" non-gaming laptop has good enough integrated graphics for low settings: hotukdeals.com/dea…584

Doesn’t look like I can charge via USB-C?

Any of them? USB-C charging is a real thing

Wouldn't have thought so for gaming laptops. For a start gaming laptops use more wattage than usb-c can provide.
Gaming isn’t number 1 priority but I want something with dedicated graphics card
I can't find a laptop within your budget with USB C charging.

If dedicated GPU not important Lenovo Yoga 13 is just over £600

Do you have an exhaustive list of USBC chargeable laptops? Or a link to where one might live?

No, i don't have a full list.
I know certain ultrabook could be usb-c. But I need to look into each spec to confirm

Thinkbook 13s
HP probook 430 G6
Asus Zenbook 3
Dell XPS 13

If you want a laptop with better GPU, you could consider Lenovo E495 with AMD Ryzen 5.
It is a 14", but is with usb c charging
