Post Office 11Mbps Broadband £15.90/month (£10.90 after Quidco)

Posted 31st Dec 2019
£60 Quidco brings it to effectively 10.90 per month.
12 month contract.

Looks to me to be the cheapest broadband deal at the moment (correct me if I'm wrong).

Comes with a Zyxel AMG1302-T11C router.
Anybody have opinions on the router?

It's not ideal but it's okay for low users like me.

Not gonna lie you probably get faster spends on dial-up

Never tried POB so can't say. Reviews suggest they are pretty bad on the backend affecting their services even delaying installation to pass the 14 day cooling off period so you can't get out of the contract. All I can say is, be cautious.

11mbps in 2019....

more than enough for streaming 1080p in 2020.
You can download anything faster than you can watch/use/play it.

You have to have a very busy household to need more.
2020 now
11Mbps is the stupid ofcom national average figure, this'll be a 24Mbps ADSL package.

A relative of mine gets 2.5, he is livid about it, something to do about living near train tracks as he lives in a decent sized city

Better off just tethering to a phone
The monthly rate is fair enough I think. You can carry on with this one. If the service is reliabable and secure.
Good price! Who do they use as a service provider? 11mbps is same as what I have with Sky BB Essential now and meets my requirements fine!

Note that broadband from the Post Office is delivered over TalkTalk's wholesale network, but customer billing and support are managed separately. Therefore, while network performance for Post Office customers is similar to TalkTalk's, many aspects of customer experience are different.

It used to BT Wholesale prior to TT Wholesale but we're talking a long time ago.

If price is your top priority then it's the cheapest atm for standard ADSL broadband. 2nd, would be NowTV broadband which is on Sky network.
Signed up for this about a month ago went live on the 23rd(after about four hours)
getting slightly faster download speeds 9.5mb and slightly slower upload than with Plusnet

Weird thing is it blocks things like gambling websites automatically
so I have to use VPN to buy a lottery ticket
and I can't see a way to turn it off

Have you logged into the router, just type 192.168.0.1 with the details from the back of router and disabled the safety/adult restrictions?

Some broadband have an online portal that you can turn off safe search etc, I know sky do.... In that case ring up the tech team of your provider and ask them to turn it off for you, its not a big deal and doesn't take long

That's unlikely. As far as I'm aware the fastest ADSL packages offered in the UK are 24Mbps. It may be a copper line from your house but that's almost certainly VDSL (aka FTTC) - copper to the green street cabinet then fibre the rest of the way to the exchange

Assuming your units abreviation is actually mega bits per second (Mbps), you have a fibre service terminated via copper, certainly not an ADSL service!
