    postal strike

just to confirm and set the record straight all mail centres and distribution will be on strike from 4am tommorow for 24 hrs and all delivery offices will be on strike on friday with all workers resuming work on saturday. most of the work will be carried out by the managers and untrained casual staff (yes we do have training) we are not doing this to annoy the public but to stop RM having their own way and destroying the buisness many workers have been doing this job for in excess of 20 years my husband including and cannot afford to loose pay but we have to save our jobs and keep RM public not private if this happens the customers will also be worse off more info can be obtained from the below link
    thanks

The ironic thing is, the strike is destroying the business as all the big name retailers will be switching permanently to private courier services. Fail.

Completely agree. If this continues for a few weeks - which I think it might - the union will go bust (a la before!) and you'll loose out. The government have the right to sell off rights for post box collection if the royal mail don't complete there duties... the strike is badly damaging business and I do not believe the royal mail will ever recover fully from this!

The CWU fears the national roll-out of this machine will mean thousands of full-time jobs will go and that there will be a massive increase in the number of part-time workers.

RM clearly have their own agenda here. Despite what media says, post has increased hugely in the last few years...just think of Ebay and the rapid rise in home businesses.

Clearly RM are trying to bulldoze the workers and are unable to sit and talk with the staff.

This is a highly valuable and unique service. You may be inconvenienced but posties are trying to preserve their service. They are not fantastically well paid and the dispute is not for a wage rise but because of the conditions being imposed on them.

Explain. As all this isn't going to affect me (only mail I get is my wage slip) I cant be arsed to look into it. From what I can see though, RM want more automation which would mean a more efficient service for the customer. The customer is king, as anybody who has worked in a service industry knows.

Or do the employees not remeber the state of the business before crozier came in. If they are not happy theres plenty more would jump at their job and wages. The problem with this militant increase is that it only ensures that those who represent unions are safe in employment.
