Powder coating metal railings

Posted 15th Feb
I have been given a quote for metal railings and the cost of getting them galvanised and powder coated is £315 compared to just getting them galvanised for £190. So I would be paying an extra £125 for the powder coating.

I am buying the metal railings and then employing someone to fit them.

I can't make up my mind as to whether I should get the powder coating as well or should I just get the galvanised coating and then paint the railings myself?

Has anyone got powder coating railings and can comment on whether they give a better look than gloss paint? Do they last longer than gloss paint as well considering the railings will be galvanised.

Powder coat all the way, will last then, if you paint gloss on galvanised products it will flake off eventually causing more work in the long run. Powder coat and the only maintenance required will be a wash down

thanks. i had asked them for a quote of galvanised and gloss painted to see how much cheaper and they said you have to let the galvanised railings weather before you can paint them with gloss if i don't want to pay for the powder coating. i would have to get galvanised only and then paint them later with gloss once they have had a chance to weather.

this means that the surface will need to be prepared properly before i apply the gloss paint otherwise the gloss will flake off as you say. so it would seem better to pay for powder coating as well.
Definitely Powder Coat. The extra spent is definitely worth it. They’ll be dipped so all the corners and joins will be coated. Any signs of weathering can be touched up using specialist spray paint.
They will look better than gloss painted with a smoother finer coating.
Powder coating does last longer then gloss paint and is also more resistant to chips and scratches.
thanks guys. you guys have made up my mind for me
