I have a little money put away in a mini cash isa but since the interest rates have dropped im getting a fraction of the interest i was, so im thinking of investing some of it in premium bonds?
Anyone had any luck with these?
Is there anything else out there thats worth investing in that isnt high risk?

well my father in law has had them for about 30 years and won £50 in all that time but my brother in law has had some for 6 months and won 4 times winning nearly £7,000 in total

depends how much you have to invest - the more bonds you have the more chance of winning.

If you do buy them - try to get them at the end of the month and buy them in the minimum amounts of £100.

Try looking at Moneysupermarket for some of the savings rates and Money saving expert - they might help.

no probs, good questions, i looked on the site a while back but someone told me the prizes had changed.

you have to hold them for a full calendar month before they go into the draw - the draw takes place on the 1st of the month.

yes, you can get back your money that you've invested at any time, in full.

exactly - and you never know you just might win! well that's what i keep hoping too.

you can buy them at the post office or online/by telephone.

Good Luck!!

There used to be at least 10 pages of top prize winners on ceefax pages

After the recent interest rate cuts there are now 3 pages

I'm considering cashing mine in, had them 3 years now and not won a bean

Definately less major prizes I think they only list prizes of £5K or above on ceefax

with the interest so low you aint got nothing to lose, as already said you have to have had the bonds for one full calenar month before they can be entered, so buy on the 31st of one month you miss the next months draw and entered into the next

Sloth/Mod

I've won several times over the years..........least was £50 and the most was £800.

Because they don't go into the draw for 1 whole month

I have a bit invested, bought in chunks of £5000 which gives you a great chance of winning at least one prize a month. Have had them 2 years, win at least £50 a month and so far have won 30% of my investments

I could just be very lucky

defo a good idea..... we dont use ISAs and stuff as not pro intrest (Muslim beliefs) so this works best for our money and make a good little return..got like 800 odd last year.

I buy £1000 each month, as a Merchant Seaman I get paid gross so I buy Premium Bonds each month and then cash them in when my tax bill arrives each year. Won zilch last year but in previous years I've had some wins up to £1000. As a long term investment they aren't very good, but for short term investment where interest rates are poor, you may get lucky and win something. You can't lose as you can take your money out at any time.

so whats the prize break down?

Prizes

As well as the two £1 million jackpots you can win anything from £50 to £100,000 for each Bond number you hold. If you win one of the jackpot prizes you will get a visit from one of the Agent Millions. The table below shows the full range of prizes:

Prize band
Prize value
Higher value: £1 million
£100,000
£50,000
£25,000
£10,000
£5,000
Medium value: £1,000
£500
Lower value: £100
£50
Each month’s prize fund is equal to one month’s interest on the total value of all eligible bonds. The ]interest rate section gives the current prize fund rate, the number of jackpots, together with the share of the prize fund allocated to each prize band. It also gives the odds of each £1 Bond number winning a prize.
