    Present and carpet(Enter with caution)

I have seen some combinations over the years that I see and think "that's not for me"
One is 3sums, another is cereal with cold milk.

I have one for the "Misc" it's a thread about Christmas presents and new carpet.
I know it's radical to have it in the one thread, but if anyone can pull it off, I can.

Please don't report this thread to the mods, if it pushes the boundaries to far, click out, and come back later when your mind has had time to adjust.

    Here goes.

    1. I got some new carpet today, it's cream. Shall I make people take their shoes off when they come into the house? I dislike it when you have to take your shoes off when you go into someones house, unless it's for religious reasons.

    2. I got 1 pressie that was wrapped for Christmas(1 wrapped, 1 unwrapped). I am yet to open it, but I am seeing the person that gave me it in the morning. Should I not open it, and see if i get tripped up tomorrow?

    nice carpet btw

Why not wrap the present in the carpet?

Why isn't the carpet up to the door frame, it's not 1942 you know!

If I had a cream carpet I would definately make you take your shoes off!

explain why you havent opened the pressie....

    smarties/buttons in pressie i think,

should get misc to guess the contents

It might be a Pack of Rolo's, Yum

I think that you need to open your mind a bit. This thread is like no other.
There is no problem, so no solution. you can do whatever you think is necessary, lets push the HUKD boundaries to the limit.

I don't know what the present is, it might get ruined, but it would be a fun thing to do on a Friday night.

    Thanks.

I just don't open presents. Not sure why. My son went to Tenerife for a week this a.m, so I can't call on his services this time.

Do you want some blue over shoes for your visitors? I would make people take shoes off. My missus used to hate cleaning our carpet visitors had dirty shoes.

I feel sad for you that you only got 1 wrapped and 1 unwrapped present for Christmas but perhaps that is me being too consumerist. I think that it would be best to unwrap or pull, as appropriate, the present if it is indeed a Christmas present. It is not polite to cause your present-giving visitor embarrassment in tripping you up. There is no real reason for you to desist from opening. It would also be best for you not to trip up over the carpet.
Re the carpet, I would say for you to get a coir mat to put outside the front door upon which people will surely wipe their dirty feet. Place another 'dirt-trapper' rug just inside the front door. If it looks as if someone is unlikely to remove their footwear and you feel it is an intrusion upon them to ask for removal, then keep them upon the 'dirt-trapper' and surreptitiously use your body language to make them move to and fro so obviating the necessity for footwear removal. If they are wearing industrial footwear direct them to both enter via the back door and to remove their boots.

Tell him to wear overshoes, if he has none refuse him entry. All BT/Openreach engineers are issued/can order blue over shoes, and we are told to wear them when we enter a residential premises. It is a health and safety issue to remove your safety footwear

oh blimey.......i need a lie down

not as good as the bounty thread if memory serves but on the carpet front just don't have anyone round outside family, then make them take their shoes off. problem solved if there was a problem to be solved in the first place.

as for the presents don't open them and just recycle them next christmas, by that time the only possesions anyone will have is their cloth rags and hair so you with your fancy shiny gifts will be paraded through town like a king to remind us all of the once prosperous times we knew.

oh and as for the warm milk fiasco just don't mention to the locals as they bow at your gifts as they'll have you hung at dawn like some kind of witch.

The dirt that comes off people's feet even if they wipe their feet is quite astounding.

I have a beige/cream carpet and its plain whch makes it worse so it shows every bit of dirt.

I do ask people to take their shoes off but if i don't feel i can ask someone i put down that plastic stuff on a roll,i forget what its called that acts as a runner to put on top of the carpet,i put that down where they will be walking on it..lol

Trust me,if you don't you will spend half your life cleaning it or just give up and it will be filthy in no time.

People think i'm strange having hot milk on cereal, especially with Rice Krispies:w00t:

The rug solutions being rejected; the carpet dilemma remains then.
Have you considered that you may have made an error, in which case you could return the carpet and purchase a more suitable one?
If you cannot return the carpet, the only solution is to observe whether persons visiting remove their footwear within the tiled mini-hall. Those that do, you may safely permit to enter the carpeted area; those that do not must be directed to the kitchen or, perhaps, dining area and kept there upon some thin excuse - perhaps relating to the temperature in the carpetted area, You may, if you think it worth the hazard, suggest that removal of footwear would solve the temperature problem in that area.
Re the milk - you are now no longer allowed to have the cereal-milk combination, for the health and safety reasons ^^^^. You may have cereal and water.

edit: What a strangely similar set of circumstances- deb8z. Are you two related (closely)?

    Oh Dear!
Nice carpet, just not at all practical.
we had laminate when we moved in to our new home, however cos of a l'il toddler i ripped it up and had a carpet a very similar shade to yours.
About a month ago i had the carpet ripped out and laminate put in (toddler is now old enuff) and all that within 3 yrs b'cos even though everyone took their shoes off it still got filthy and i calculated that the cleaning costs in 3 yrs would = more than a new laminate floor.

re: present do what you want

i have that carpet in my bedroom, at least one that looks exactly the same. waaay soft and warm on feet. well, it was a year ago lol.

I think you've been on the sauce. Mercedes rough? lol.

One solution to the carpet conundrum is to get a dark haired dog. By the time the dog has malted and muddied up the carpet on a daily basis you will not be bothered about the marks and mud which come off people's shoes. Problem solved.

just come clean about your OCD , and new carpet and footwear dont mix !

you could also tell them about your phobia of surprises , hence they will have to open your present for you

    edit :
i missed the opened pressie bit lol

I've said she's got a figure to die for but without make up on she looks totally different,i don't think she looks nice without make up on like a lot of women, myself included lol

i think you should have floowed my lead polised black tiles in the lounge heated of course!!
quck sweep and mop then they are as good as new!

Your carpet is on the stairs, so why make folk take their shoes off? I hate being asked to remove my shoes going into people's house, I have mobility issues and while I can kick them off can't always manage to get them back on again without help, and sometimes need help tying laces. I had a cream carpet in my old house, had a door mat outside and inside, and asked everyone to wipe their feet well.
