The USA really has gone mad.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet, but has the microphone and orchestra is ready to play,

    What have you done USA!

    Crazy.

So how long before that wall is built?

    Well that was his promise.

However I feel he is going to be the quickest president to ever get assassinated.

The wall doesn't matter to us. He's going to do a lot of awful things and if you're a non-white, non-straight person in America then your life got considerably worse.

If you're talking about what happens to the rest of the world...no idea. America has been the one constant in all of our lives because it was a superpower willing to intervene and it's interests broadly aligned with our's.

That is likely to change which leaves a vacuum and I'm not sure what fills it. I'm honestly at a loss as to what to tell my children beyond trying to reassure them that everything will be ok.

Six months ago I would've said that the European Union would need to bind closer together and that there were huge opportunities for economic growth as part of that, and I still believe that is the silver lining to all of this.

But at the moment anything is possible and the market needs to bottom out first so you're looking at a financial market reacting in the way it does to a large-scale terrorist attack. That's about the size of things.

There's also a bizarre parallel with Brexit here in that an ignored group of people of broadly similar demographics have 'fought back' against the 'elites' by voting for a populist leader or individual....

yet the people who will most benefit are those at the top of the economic food chain, whilst those who will suffer are likely to be the most vulnerable members of society.

It's akin to being chased by a wolf and rationalising that the best response is to pump it full of adrenaline. What happens is those least able to escape it are mauled to death whilst the faster people manage to escape....and then they come back and loot the remains of the fallen.

And off in the treeline Vladimir Putin is riding a horse shirtless, laughing to himself.

He's going to do a lot of awful things and if you're a non-white, non-straight person in America then your life got considerably worse.Don't you mean if you are an illegal immigrant or a supporter of jihad then in America your life just got considerably worse. If you are a non-white, non-straight person in America everything is still tickety-boo. Now quit all this fear mongering you odious troll.

No, I mean that if you're a homosexual then you're likely to see marriage equality overturned. I mean if you're a person of Arab descent then you have a President who is happy to imply you're a terrorist.

Then there's the impact on women, especially those seeking an abortion because Roe v Wade is going to be under severe threat.

Then there's all those people who had healthcare for the first time because of the ACA which is likely to be scrapped. The guy has even threatened the freedom of the press which strikes at the very heart of the first amendment. All this is at risk not just because of Trump but because of the judges he will appoint.

It's a huge turning point in America's history.

The establishment, the EU, feminism, immigration, political correctness whatever you want to choose are all scapegoats or boogeymen. There's a significant number of people who think they've been short-changed, that what they were 'promised' in life hasn't been delivered and there's a nostalgic yearning for a time when they think life was better.

    So they blame these boogeymen.

I also think that there's a lot of men out there who feel threatened by the changing world and that's not a new phenomenon. They were raised with these ideas that they'd be providers, that they'd be successful and come home to their 'castles' and the world hasn't panned out like that for them so they look to blame something.

That doesn't mean Clinton, the democrats etc. are perfect but in so many countries you're seeing populists gaining traction and exploiting these feeling of frustration, or impotence and giving these people scapegoats. It's a bizarre shift in American ideology.

Exactly right. Hilary has no one to blame but herself. Beating Trump should have been plain sailing after all the nonsense he's come out with. His victory (if he wins - it's not happened yet) is a protest kick in the teeth to the establishment. Just like Brexit.

Funny thing on that racist card handed out were the 95% of blacks who voted for Obama racist and not influenced by his colour? Was anything made of that extraordinarily lop sided vote?

This is scary stuff. We'll see how much power a President actually has, as opposed to how much he's a figurehead. Obama had to fight a Republican Senate, the Senate is still Republican - how much backing will they give their Republican President?
This shouldn't even have been a race, if the Democrats had found a half respected candidateTrump wouldn't have got a look in.

You really need to quit using your lame rhetoric that anyone who votes against your views is a racist or loser.

Was Hilary a racist for paying Black celebrities for getting on stage with her? Were the huge majority of Mexican and Latino vote she secured racist? Were the 95% of Black voters racist for voting Obama?

We both agree that Trump is not fit for purpose. But if "none of the above" had stood, it would have won by a landslide.

People supported Trump but I reckon many were sick of the accusations of being racist, they voted anyway and their vote still counts even if liberals don't understand why.

something is not irrational if it does exactly what it's intended to achieve. Voting for Trump means voting anti-establishment.

Whilst he represents views with which you or I disagree that's entirely irrelevant to whether he is anti-establishment.

I hope Teresa May renegotiates our "Special Relationship" a damn sight quicker than she seems to be starting the Brexit negotiations!

Voting because you're sick of being called a racist or xenophobe for supporting someone who is racist and xenophobic is irrational and pig-headed.

it looks all over to me, Hillary should concede...then go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass Go or collect millions of dollars from her bogus charity

    Lock her up !!

As a parent it would be easy to be despondent but my kids still represent the same thing they've always represented and that's hope. What they're seeing now is people acting against their own self-interest and making things worse not just for themselves, but for their neighbours.

What we might serve as is a lesson on how not to do things because I can't think we reach a point much lower than this. They'll be the next great generation of people and all we can do is provide them with the best tools possible.
