There is a question I never understood (or maybe it's in my own head)

Why is it more expensive for DVD-R than DVD+R ?

It used to be the other way round, the more popular type is usually the cheapest.

Not so many people use +R

What is the difference? and Why is there difference?

One group wanted one standard, the other group wanted the other, they ended up releasing both, like Betamax and VHS or Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Profits to be made on royalties

DVD+Rs are useful as they can be set to read as DVD-ROM which is good for people who wear eye patches and have peg legs

The difference is there because different companies produced the technology as such

Pioneer develped the - format and used mainly by Apple. The - format was developed by someone else and used by Microsoft, Sony & Dell. In the end though they all just supported both formats as no one owned the technology as such and both formats become the industry standard.

The main difference betwee thedisks is + format is uses mltiple layers to store the data whch supposedly makes them better, for that reason the + format is more expensive

Cool that was a good explanation.
I assume they are the same capacity, in the eye of morden PCs they are just the same thing?

pretty much, it's only older devices that require a specific type, like older DVD Recorders only took DVD+R. You'll probably never have to care about it if you only use DVDRs for PC usage.

Some people say + media is better read onh standard DVD players and PS2s etc

the - media seems to be better supported and often on players where the - is the standard of course they play better.
