Private Health Insurance for a 16 year old

Found 27th Mar 2011
Can anyone advise the best place to get Private Health Insurance for a 16 year old.

He plays rugby at quite a high level and we have been advised to take out private health insurance. I am struggling as most places will only quote for 18years and over.

I must point out that he does not get paid to play.

Any help greatly appreciated x

I just used this site and Faked a 16 yr old boy, Loads of companies gave price quotes, worth a look. HTH x

pmipartners.co.uk/com…php
That was the only comparison site I could find which quoted for 16 year olds. The only problem is, they dont ask about his sport and the premiums rocket when it is included (I have rang up a couple). I dont mind the price but have no knowledge of good and bad so was looking for advise on a decent company.
Aviva?

If he does not get paid, then i wouldn't think he would be classed as "professional or semi professional"

I know what you are saying but he is linked to a professional club and I the other insurers have factored it in

This is exacty why we need the cover. Do you think things would have been different for you if you had had a piivate health plan?

I am so sorry for you too xx
Why do you need private insurance?

Private will not pay or deal with acute injuries, has to be A/E dept.

You go to A&E first obviously. If treatment is then needed, Private Heathcare speeds up the whole process. No waiting for an op on NHS lists. Hopefully it wont be needed but it would be there "just in case"

Have you got private health insurance? My friend works for AXA and sold us health insurance a few years back. The 'family package' works out far cheaper than any individual insurance.

Maybe you can do this and get a few 'bolt ons' for your son?

My mum is a carer for a rugby player who broke his back in a scrum, I would definitely look into it, he has people round the clock. Obviously he will hopefully never need it. But you never know

Maybe it would be better to persuade him along another path!!

Ha ha! Yeah, tell him to take up Philately!
If you get private health insurance you can insure him as one of your dependants.
If I remember rightly if you work you can do something clever and make the payments tax efficient.
I have had no problems with BUPA, but they aren't the cheapest out there.

That would never be covered on private medical insurance, only general sport insurance
