Private Reg Plates - Taking Off Retention Onto Car -- (Anyone done it recently at on office?)

My private plate is currently on retention certificate from DVLA, (green form). A few years ago I went to my local DVLA Office (Leeds) and they were able to process the request there and then, print a NEW MOT and Tax disc with the new reg on it.

Ie taking the plate off the retention document and putting onto the car.

Does anyone know If the LEEDS office still offer this service "inhouse, there and then?" rather than having to post everything to them.... (seen as they lost all my documents twice when trying to take the plate off my old car.)

Anyone done it recently??

Website does not list the services they offer in house, and been on hold for 15 mins already this morning!

Cheers

Rick

Great stuf... Will head over there later today..

Just out of interest, was it the LEEDS office ?

Sorry to but in but as this topic is already going thought I'd ask my question in here - Does anyone know the process for putting a new private plate onto a car that already has a private plate, which needs to be put on retention. So basically swapping the plates.
Do I need to put the original plate back on and get the one that's on there put on retention, then put my new private plate on the car?

Is LEEDS similar to Leeds?

Should all be able to be done at once. Not really sure of the forms though

No.. different place..

Taking a private plate off a car can not be done via a local office, you need to complete 2 forms, one for taking the plate off the car to put on retention and the other form to transfer the plate from X to the car.

All should be done at the same time to prevent having to go throufgh the process over getting a V5 for the oringal plate... then having to send it off again...

Our local office used to do it there and then, but not anymore. You can take your paperwork in, they'll check it, and then write to you when it's sorted, or you can just send all the paperwork in. I'm guessing this is a nationwide change.

Cheers guys, rep left for both

Apparently Leeds no longer do the transfers. I recenty bought new car and had to do cherished plate transfer. Car dealer had to send docs off to Manchester.

Could have been telling me porkies but don't see what reason they had to lie?

A DVLA local office can only put a plate onto a car from a retention certificate or nominee form.

If you are wanting to take a plate off a car and place on retention or to another car, you need to use the postal service, documents get sent to your local DVLA office, they check the documents and then send to the regional office, which in my case would be Manchester, then V5, MOT and TAX is issued back from that office.

Once you know the system its ok.... (apart from dvla lost my V5 twice in the last 2 months!
