pro anti virus is a virus

Just thought i would share my experience lastnight.
A anti virus thing popped up on my screen, downloaded saying i had viruses however my Client popped up telling me this was the virus. Anyway cut long story short,
This pro 10 disables your own antivirus, etc i had 100 infections & Malware etc
My laptop wouldnt boot up, was nightmare for 4hrs.
Ended up getting on disabling it from start up, downloading virus malware thing on my mem stick on other pc to install on infected laptop.

Ive just googled this malware problem and it seems it is a bit of a nasty pain one!

I only went on here, facebook, google, ebay and halfcost lastnight so not sure where it came from.

Still having few glitches but seems to be more or less ok. I have to reinstall my cisco at some point as it disabled that.

I can get on line for about 5 mins before i loose webpages and need to reboot. SO i will be back and forth all day! literally!

Hope this helps at least one person who may stumble across it.

My friend had a similar one called Personal AV, I got rid of it with Avast.

Suffice to say, if an Anti virus manager you haven't installed pops up, it's more than likely a virus itself.

I'm glad everyone else is beginning to wake up to Malwarebytes

It's helped me clean numerous dirty machines.

Also give ]SuperAntiSpyware a go

I think those two combined could beat swine flu given half a chance... lol

I had that one last week, took just over 2 hours to get rid of it in the end

I also use malwarebytes and superantispyware and spybots

]Malwarebytes removed most of the threats on the machine I fixed for someone after a Personal AV "attack". Although ]spybot still found a few more.

my malware found some problems then i ran superantispyware and it cleared it up, give that a try

Yeah I used to use malwarebytes, along with avast and spyware doctor/threatfire for background protection when I used to run windows. Only ever had maybe 3 actual infections that I had to manually get rid of in 10 years (used to run other AV stuff but was hogging system resources)... now I use ubuntu linux instead and don't have to worry about malware/spyware etc anyway

Don't forget to turn off "system restore" , if you don't any nasties might be saved by the gates crew ready to reinfect........

Ive just done the Spy bot one and it founf 11 more including 2 trojans!

Sometimes you get false reports but you won't know that.
A clean install may be required but if it's works lappy get your it bods to look at it.

well thats malware one done, spybot one done and the Super Anti Spyware done!

Hubs got a system cleaner which he did before on laptop, i will get him to do that when hes home from work... failing that i will get it looked at. Ta for advice everyone

Theres loads of these about ,there Fake anti-virus programs . They install themselves just by visiting a invected website . I've had to deals with a few in the past 2/3 years , WinAnti-Virus2007/08/09 ,they look very convincing and look real , but they can certainly reek havoc on your pc/laptop . They give false positives and make the owner think there is loads of virus's and trojans , that's because the program has installed the virus's itself . It demands money to get rid of them .....................Ransomware . At the time there was only 2 programs that found and got rid of these things .........SuperAntiSpyware & MalwareBytes .
Clear out your temp int files , disable system restore , then re-enable it , run a good anti-virus program .
