Problem with Electric shower

Basically when switching on the shower from the pull switch a fuse gets tripped.

It only happens intermittently but I don't want to take any chances because of the shower's high voltage

I have replaced the electric shower thinking that it's the problem but the issue is still happening.

Can anyone help please

Maybe faulty pull switch

When you replaced shower did you check you have got correct cable size and fuse? See below link for recommended specs based on shower power

Heard off an electrician that the wires in pull switches tend loose after a while due to the mechanical motion. I'd check that for melting/arcing.

Pull switch died maybe. They seem to burn out because of loose wires.

The shower was swapped for the same model and Kw that was installed previous Triton Cara 9.5kw for easy installation. The last one has lasted me a few years so the existing setup has been working for some time

I had similar and it was a loose neutral in the pull switch

I'l try that next as im trying to avoid the electrician call out of £40

Hindsight is always a good thing I guess. If you had called the electrician in the first place, you would have saved buying the new shower, maybe spent £50 on his call out plus a switch and been sorted. Now you have a pointlessly bought shower wasted time fitting it and still a potentially very dangerous situation involving water and electricity. Well played and good luck

I'm going to change the switch to save calling for an electrician???
Why? Are you an electrician?

Nah, owner has a spangly new unit and can shift the fully functional removed unit for a few notes on ebay to be used as a chicken coop or other random use, maybe even as a shower. The shower has been replaced at the owner's leisure as opposed to the "emergency requirement" of having to replace it when it unexpectedly threw in the towel. But yeah, shame its operation is still problematic.

You really don't need an electrician to change a light switch. Would you call an electrician to wire a plug?

2 different things, one is part if a portable appliance (plug) and the other is part if a fixed installation in a specialist location (according to British standards).
Oh and it's not a light switch. Light switches are capable if switching 6 to 10 amps (generally). Shower pull switches are capable if switching 45 amps with considerably bigger cables requiring more experience for connecting..

looks like your shower is too high powered for the cable. try replacing the shower to a lower rating if you are not already low. as others have said, also try replacing the pull switch, but it sounds more like a problem with the cable size.

Once fixed leave the pull switch on permanently and just use the on off switch on the shower
