    Problem With Sale On FS/FT - Advent Vega

    I sold my 1 Month old Vega recently to someone that works at PC World.

    The vega was running corvus 0.5 and running nicely. The buyer has put Modaco R8 on it and now has a problem with it losing the time.

    The buyer says because of this its faulty and wants to return.

    Where do I stand with the, by the way I sent all receipts that came with it from PC World Business. Which from his message creates a problem for him as its the business side and not retail that he works in. I made no comment of PC World in the sale of it.

    Its a month old, but he has had it since Friday. It has 12 month from Advent but his last message says that it would have been much easier for him to take it to work with him, but as I had it from PC World Business he cant.

    I don't think its a Warranty issue anyway.


    Can`t he just re-install Corvus?

    He claims to have put corvus back on and its still the same. These things can happen when messing about with roms but I don't feel its a reason to return it to me or under warranty.

    I have no proof of this but I get the feeling he bought it thinking if he didn't like it he could get a refund at work for the full amount. When I sold it to him I had already lost £84 in a month and don't need this hassle.

    Tell him to jog on. he bought it, fiddled with it, broke it.

    I'll have to get ASB or Sigma to judge a ruling on it, but as far as I can see he/she's caused a problem as is basically trying to get you to sort it your cost. If he had not of fiddled with it I would of accepted it back but seems like he/she has created the problem. You have supplied the receipts so he/she can go that way or via the 12 month warranty. Not sure if they will sort the problem if it's been soft modded.

    They are useless.

    they flashed it and probably caused the issue, so you've got nothing to worry about. if they just google the issue they'll probably find an easy fix.

    Why would aSB or Sigma need to make a decision? The guy invalidated the warranty by flashing it. End of story.

    However, these devises are meant to be unbrickable, so probably just further proof he's clueless and can be brought back to life by someone with an IQ above 50.

    Tell him to do one. If if didnt know the risks in hacking tablets and flashing with something he downloaded from the net, then he's learnt a valuable lesson which you should take credit for and be happy. (serious)

    He accepted the item and by modifying it has caused the problems. You're not to blame for that and as such, you're under no obligation to accept a return.

    I'm currently having a battery issue with mine and if you Google it, a lot of people have the same issue whereby when you've finished using it, its at 90% or so, you "Power Off" and when you turn it back on its battery has decreased significantly depending on how long its been off for. Going to visit a PC World tomorrow and try getting an exchange as it seems to be a known problem with a few of the devices and from comments online, it defs means a faulty battery.

    Tell the buyer to return to stock and visit a PC World with the receipt. Usually even if its outwith the 21 days for exchanges it says on the back of the receipt, they'll swap it for another 1 without even offering a repair.

    If the buyer refuses this option, then that means they're taking the **** and just wanting their money back off you. Which i'd say no to. Not your fault or problem :).

    The clock issue wasn't there until they installed the r8 rom, so unlikely to be a battery issue I think.
    The buyer works for PC World but I think he presumed I had it from there or Currys, when in fact it came from PC World Business. At the very worst it could be posted off and repair if its a physical problem rather than rom/software.

    I have been as helpful as I can with this but have decided to refuse a return. I cant afford to lose any more money on this through no fault of my own. When installing various roms things dot always go smoothly as you would expect. But the Vega is unbrickable and has some great support forums.

    When i switched on first time it showed me the time as 12:00 and i thought it was due to reset and I just installed another rom to try. But got the same problem. buyer also sent me a text saying he had this issue once when using the modaco r8 rom. so he is acknowledging the problem. But he don't want to take it back knowing it would be a hassle to obtain a replacement and he don't want it any more...

    By your on admission, it was working when it arrived.

    Everything else is irrelevant, whether the laptop works with unofficial Roms is not the sellers problem - he sold a working laptop, and you broke it.

    Considering you work at pc world, I'm not overly surprised.

    Sorry, dont know why I said laptop. I used modaco extensively along with xda devs to flash various windows mobile phones in the past. This tablet, albeit Linux driven is I assume a similar process - ie: when you flash a new firmware, its made quite clear you could potentially void the warranty?

    I also know of some tablet, and more specifically early dell mini 9 net books that wouldn't charge properly unless an app was running at o/s level. Not saying its true of this case, bit just making the point that you can't claim its a hardware prob

    Hey look I made a stereotypical comment about the place you work. Ive been to pc world, vie seen the sales technique, and the tech guys rip off prices, and inability to fix simple problems (usually just before people ask me to fix it instead). Id say 99% of pc world staff are utter morons. Maybe you are in the 1%, and if you are, I apologise for my earlier comment.

    Now I have a very simple question: did you test the tablet before you flashed it?

    Btw no longer use modaco since the owner Paul is an egotistical **** hole who alienated a lot in the industry.

    Regardless of the problem, you shouldn't have flashed it, if I was the seller I'd tell you to get lost. You should have contacted them instead of flashing it.

    Im afraid thats why you wont be getting a refund. If it wasn't working, why not contact the seller at that point? Why flash something you wanted to return.

    You didn't buy it from a shop, you bought it "as seen". Nothing can be proved either way, and if you had kept quiet about flashing it, the seller would have had to accept the return. But you nulled the warranty so you have no comebacks.

    In any case its not possible to brick a Vega. If you really want to fully reset it this can be done buy following the instructions in the Advent link below. That Will fully put it back to how Advent intended not matter what state its in and its up to you then which rom you put on.

    I would guess its not unusual to experience some bugs when trying different roms.

    rom is the os for tablet....Please control your emotions here you don't need to comment i am stupid for flashing a tablet...That means you are a stupid for wasting your time sittng on the computer and commenting on some other threads which are not related to you....:(

    Is Corvus 0.5 a custom ROM? A quick Google search leads to the MoDaCo forum so I can only assume that it is. If that's the case I don't think it is fair to place all of the blame on Ashok because Gavjbrown would have been the first one to flash a custom ROM and possibly expose the tablet to potential problems and risk losing the protection provided by the warranty.
