Problems connecting Graphics Card DVI to HDMI MONITOR (Inno3D 8600GT)

I bought an Inno3d GeForce Nvidia 8600GT days ago and I had been trying to make the DVI Output work.

When I connect it, the picture from my LCD Monitor goes "on and off". The picture will show on the monitor initially after booting the comp then it goes off again.

If i try restarting it after about three more times will itcome up again. However using the same dvi output, i have connected the dvi to vga connector and i have successfully get the monitor working on the vga connector. But i ll rather have dvi to hdmi because i want to output the vga to the tv.

The connection seem to have a mind of it own because it comes up at will and once it goes off , it can only come up after a reboot and only if it wanted to.

Please advise, as this is really stopping me from playing Crysis.

    Cheers

Have you tried connecting the cable after the system has booted up?

yes I did try that and the monitor quickly show that no signal is been received.

Are you using a DVI (male) to HDMI (female) adapter? Or vice versa? Or a DVI (male) to HDMI (male) cable?

its a DVI (male) to HDMI (female) adapter.

Hmmm... I don't know what could be the problem.
Have you got an Nvidia gfx card manager? Or something similar?
Are there any advanced settings that you could change?
Refresh rate could be an issue (Hz), TV's can only display so many. 60 is standard I think. 50 if not 60.
    Also the resolution?

i would try booting xp into vga mode. if it works then you'll almost certainly find its a refresh rate problem. if it boots into vga mode and is usable then try changing the resolution and refresh rates . it may take a few attempts to find the correct settings

Yes or a resolution problem, I had a problem before on my ****** Goodmans HDTV where the PC VGA only worked on certain resolutions and if a resolution that was chosen wasnt compatable the screen was black.

And it as the same, saw the bios/boot up screen then nothing

I do not think its a refresh rate prob, take for example when the monitor dies on me and I disconnct the dvi cable i simply plug back the dvi to vga connector and voila, the screen comes up with the same refresh rate and resolution. If i shutdown and I reconnect the dvi it works again and after being in windows for say 40 minutes then it goes dead again.

Got the latest drivers for your card? Are you running Vista? 64bit?
