I am absolutely desperate, my sons computer was connected to the internet until Monday, we used a linkys wireless adaptor. He has done an update from windows and ever since then, the computer has lost the wireless adaptor, and we are unable to uninstall the driver on add and remove programmes, it just locks. Anybody got any ideas?

Many thanks

Unplug it, plug it back in, preferably to a different USB port. Try again.

Can you take it back to a previous restore point, from say at least a couple of days ago prior to windows updates?

We have tryed all the ports however no look. We have also tryed the restore to no avail.

I would try deleting the wireless adapter and reinstalling.

You can always try calling the manufacturers or the network provider. They should have helplines.

Thats the point the computer has somehow deleted the wireless adaptor.... thats why we were trying to reinstall the orginal drive.

I had the same problem after installing an update on my Vista. But wireless came back after a restore.

uninstall the update?

if you've got vista, go to add and remove programs and on the left handside, click "view installed updates" and uninstall the desired one

Try uninstalling the driver in safe mode, the driver could in use by another device or os function. Also when you say update , do you mean hotfix or service pack !?
try this product to see what hotfixes have been installed and uninstall the most recent
