Guys in gym recommended I should try Protien and Creatin, as it will help me a lot.

I dont believe in supplements, what do you guys recommend ?

I drink more than 3L of water a day, so thats fine and eat plenty of chicken. What else would anybody else recommend ?

    Thx

    aha!

i just started lifting again and this time am using whey protein... i've noticed a serious difference in speed of toned bulk when compared to when i was lifting 3 years ago without any supplements.

i was using promax diet which is good for lean muscle growth (no carbs so you don't look flabby) but have just switched to promax extreme... will let you know which is better in about 2 weeks!

i have bought some creatine but not started using it yet. 3L per day of water is enough to avoid cramps with creatine.

i don't see any on the maximuscle stuff....

maximuscle website do some good deals if you know what product works for you as you have to buy 3 at a time

    e.g. 3 promax extreme for £99 which is £32 cheaper than H&B

if you have more money than sense then maximulscle is an option
(did i see those promax extreme tubs are 900g?)
so 2,7kg of stuff for 99quid...ok
or go to myprotein and get the constituents which are more flexible and cheaper by far (as said in that thread their true whey tastes really good) 5% off first order codes from any previous customer (pm me if you want one or check peoples sigs on forum)

there are lots of other options than maximuscle for OP

i've just started the gym again recently too. So what's the difference between whey protein and creatine? Do you take both?? Any pointers to good info on how/what to use etc.? thanks

creatine helps you lift bigger weights - it floods the muscles with water (hence why you need to drink lots when taking it) to allow you to lift more, especially on your second set

whey protein helps the muscle rebuild faster and bigger (protein is needed for muscle growth)

you can take both - im on protein atm, and about to load up on creatine to give it a go for first time...

you need to shop about for supplements to see which one seems best for you as different people get different results from different supplements.

    hope it helps

how much protein are you geting in grams per day? you need at least 2g per Kg of body weight when buiilding... im currently 88kg i hit 200g+ of protein per day , given tha a chicken breast is about 20g of protein i would have to eat 10 per day.... to much to eat...so i 'supplement' with whey protein, imo your just spiting your muscles and they wont grow as much

    whey is not natural?????? :w00t::w00t:

mate are you getting confused with steroids? lots of people do , whey is from milk

also just to note i took creatine through cyclone and was starting to suffer really bad shin splints, did some research into creatine and found out it was actually water retention in the muscles causing a similar feeling to shin splints, as soon as i stop taking the supplement the pain in my shins went, so if you take any creatine product just be aware as i went 8 months without making the link

why shouldn't they say they are not natural? its not.
normal diet is natural, these are a supplement to a normal/natural diet ie. not normal.
    nothing wrong with that though.
hairy wimmin are natural! but thats different..

20g in a chicken breast is a pretty small one! sure you aren't catching pigeons or something?
average around 45g in a decent sized one ([email protected]%)
the whole 'per kilo body weight' thing is a bit flawed though as it really depends on the lean body mass not the blubber too.

i know where whey comes from but i am saying that its a SUPPLEMENT to a standard diet.
a supplement is something not strictly needed / not normal / not natural

    perhaps now you can understand

i never said anything about it being wrong if you bother to actually read futher than the phrase 'not natural' in my post

lol righto, so me having a milkshake a few times a day as my muscles need more protein than is comfortable to get through everyday eating chicken etc ......is not strictly needed ..normal... or natural.....get outa here http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/images/smilies/rofl.gif

i need over 200g ish a day, sooo lets do it with food.....breakfast.... well max you could get out of eggs is about 20g before puking up from being full, unless you want me to eat a full chicken at 6am maybe? lunch - anything with a chicken breast as you suggested = 50g max, dinner same again another 50g...so i would be way short of my daily intake by only eating food, supplement with a few whey shakes....low calrorie..high protein ... required intake met..simples.

Op....try a few whey shakes in addition to what you are eating now daily... i guarantee you will see a difference in muscle gain after a month.

your muscles need more protein than NORMAL because you stress them abnormally
your activity level is supplementary to normal 'required' activity level for decent fitness - its your choice but it doesn't make it normal.

i dont see your problem with a simple explanation of a viewpoint - i am not saying that abnormal is not acceptable i am explaining anothers viewpoint but you just dont get it.

i have taken true whey from myprotein myself if you bothered to read anything other than your narrow mind is allowing you to.
yet by common sense i can see both sides ...something beyond you.

just because a diet is not normal doesn't mean its not acceptable.
just because someone disagees with you does not mean their viewpoint is not acceptable

i like your exaggerations too, 88kg even going by your 2g per kilo (ignoring the body fat which you shouldn't be) is 176g
split that into 5 meals (as you should be) is 35g of protein per meal - you cant manage that ? GET OUTTA HERE!
yes shakes are easier but simple isn't the only way.

you choose not to eat in a certain way and you choose to eat in another.
the fact that you choose it does not make it normal or right
the fact that it normal or not is irrelevant to the point that there is nothing wrong with either way
that said - you are arguing about nothing other than your ability to see another point of view.

also you are clearly clueless on nutritional values for foods - 20g per chicken breast? cant eat over 20g of proteins of eggs without being full? (20g is about 3 whole eggs or 6 egg whites)

    aaaaaaaand relax

chill out mate you said it was un natural then had to wriggle your way out of it instead of simply saying you where wrong... and yeah at 6g of protein per egg... id say i (and most others)would be ready to throw up after eating 7eggs at 6am (my morning shake has 40g+ of protein) so i was right again :w00t:

i train with a lot of lads into mma/bodybuilding /martial arts etc, dont know one that has found it feasible to go the 'food only' route to building muscle. it just doesnt work.

Also its widely accepted now (op has even been told it from people himself) that at some point in your building you will need creatine to help boost muscle growth, 1kg of steak has about 4g of creatine in (1 daily dose) and even if you could manage to eat that amount of steak.. you would be also taking in 120g ish of fat lol, supplements are NATURAL and VITAL. im sensing strong jealousy at my whey shake fuelled bi's tbh

i personally recomend myprotein true whey strwaberry delight flavor ..mix it with skimmed milk and u got 50g of proetin in a shake that taste like it came from mcdonalds...lush!!!

er im not wrong - you just cant see it
being natural in this day in age is fat hairy and smelly - call yourself natural if you want

i also dont say food is the only way, i am just saying shakes are not the only way. there is a difference.

i infact agree that shakes are a simple and effective way to add to your intake of protein which is easily absorbed.
The only way to get protein? no.

for the record the strawberry shake from myprotein is actually pretty average
    personal ratings:
choc mint 10/10 water or milk
rasp ripple 10/10 water or milk
banana cream 8/10 water or milk
strawberry 6/10, water is slightly bitter, milk bland
    choc orange 5/10
    vanilla 5/10 water 4/10 milk
    toffee and cookies untried

i never took creatine since sampled ethyl ester - you think 6 eggs are bad? lol

i guess we share some of the same ideas but you just dont understand what the word natural means.
it is not natural to break down a muscle via weightlifting for no purpose other than to have it grow so you can break it down and repeat
it is not natural to tailor a diet to suit this unnatural activity
i am not saying i advise anyone to be natural but to be better than - unnatural isn't necessarily bad

    brilly;5641455

yep , if youve worked out correctly then your muscles will need 3-5 days to rebuild, during that time you should be feeding them still

If consuming the 2g per kg protein route, Is it possible to lose weight ,if combining it with a "lowish" calorie diet, and doing cardio work?

what supps are you on about like?cos basically you need a lot of carbs to gain muscle...... i said its 'pretty hard' meaning its far more effective to bulk then cut rather that try and keep your six pack and pack on more muscle, as to pack on muscle you need to take on board a bit of fat at the same time (it wil be noticeable after a few months bulk, six pack will fade a bit). Ive tried both ways and found its waaay more effective to bulk for a few months then cut for a few.
